HID lights will NOT wor in a standard light socket, they require a ballast as well. try your local hydro shop or keep it gangster and go jack one from a street sing or light post. :eyesmoke:

yeah, buying an hps without having money for a ballast is a waste of time and money, anbd a good ballast can cost hundreds...stick with cfl's if it's out of your budget

You might be talking about a medium base HPS bulb, that does fit a normal sized socket, however as stated above HID lighting requies a ballast and most standard HPS's use a mogul base socket size.

Yes it is a medium base HPS bulb, I found it at my local hardware store and was wondering if it would work if i put it in heat lamp fixture thing, it will fit in the fixture but should i do that or go with CFL?

No, it wont work, the heat light thing im guessing is just wired like a normal fixture, which means it has no ballast, just supplies direct power to what ever light you screw in.

That medium base HPS light, even tho it would screw in fine, would fail to light up because the heat lamp fixture lacks a ballast.

Hope this helps.

Don't waste your time with those bulbs. You can go to HTG.com or Plantlightinghydroponics.com and buy the light ballast and hood for under $200

well i cant really afford a ballast just yet, I have florecent lights on them now.they are just little seedlings right now so can i just keep the florecent lights on them until i can afford a ballast ?

^There is no way for us to know what kind of bulb it is, without actually seeing it, or searching the part/model number.
