agreed w/ above check out grokux by sylvania . higher par/lumen then hortilux eye . stays cooler and from my side by side grows same strain withe the dual spectrum bulbs I got about 10 grams more per plant. also i was astonished to see slightly better canopy penetration wiyh the sylvania grolux and its more economicly priced

Thats the exact bulb i use (sylvania growlux sunmaster).

Hi i have experimented with this before and by far the best results was with HPS + MH i was using a 600 watt hps with a ajustawing reflector then i decided to modify it with the hps being on one side and a 400 watt MH on the other, the results were fantastic. The duel spectrum bubls are great if you want an extra 40 watts of the blue spectrum but with a set up as mentioned above your getting 40% blue spectrum and 60% HPS.. hope this helps!!

Have options get a digital ballast that uses both mh and hps. Although I get by just fine on 2 hps systems for veg and flower.

You can run a MH bulb if you have an HPS ballast. You dont need a swichable ballast as both MH bulbs and HPS bulbs will run on an HPS ballast as long as you dont exeed the ballasts output.
For example if you have a 600w HPS ballast you can run any bulb in your lamp not exeeding 600w.

i run three seperate closets (grow spaces)... i rock an all HPS flowering closet, a MH veg closet, and (because i got mad cloning skills) i have an overflow flowering closet with an MH light.

they all produce nice buds.

i have seen guys rock HPS as their only light & make some very nice plants. not at all stretchy.
for years, i used just 2 MH @ 250w and got GREAT results.
my friend rocks 20,000 lumens of t5 (fluro) lights & grows nice buds.

sure there is the ideal ...but use what you can ...and what fits into your budget.

one poster hit the nail on the head... since we have digital ballasts available that do both MH & HPS, and if all you can score is one light, go that route.

technology rules so take advantage. :joint:

Super HPS with enhanced blue spectrum eliminates the need for a MH, I'm upgrading to a Hortilux Super Bulb myself from my generic 1000w

a little pricey but those are quality bulbs, for sure.

please come back & give us an update after your next grow.

i am interested to see if you notice a difference (in yeild, bud structure, etc).
