HPS Security Light

Hey Guys,

:weed: I'm just checking in with some of you experienced HID growers. I recently bought a 100w 120v HPS security light from Home Depot for $70. I wired it to a 15ft outdoor extension cord (rated up to 300v), it is running beautifully right now, super bright. My question to you all is, will this bulb be sufficient for flowering 3 plants in a smaller area? And is this bulb fine? I know AgroSun has speacial bulbs, this just came with it, seems kinda yellow. Grant it I flowered last time with 6500k spectrum, which is blue. I just want to know if any of you guys have any input on what I have done. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had no luck finding an HPS that cheap on the net, thus the current buy. But what I would like to know is will it do the job. ie Do you think it is better than using CFLs?

Alright Guys,

I need some mor awnsers, and I need them soon. I am leaving shortly from my home and will not be able to be mentally happy with my actions unless I get more responses. Therefore I am going to copy this thread and make a new one in the "Indoor" section which gets more traffic in hopes that I can get my awnsers and not a bunch of just views.

:peace:

quality for very cheap,reliable,discreet.

how many lumens does the bulb say it puts out? imagine somewhere around 8000-15000 tops. i say you take it back and buy from htg. you'll get more bang for your buck, ideally you want 5000 lumens at least per square foot so take the lumens and divide by how many sq feet you plan on working with. hope this helps.

Have you read much on this sight ? There is thread after thread on lighting, you can get a 150 watt HPS for $20 that works for everyone except europeons. Then after that the $110 dollar magnetic setups from HTG to the $139 400 watt HPS digital grow setups, with ballast reflector bulb and wiring from hidhut.com

You have a lot better options that the $70 light you bought.

Forget about htgsupply. They are high as a cats back and the light you have will work just fine. If you look on the bulb itself or the manufactureers website, you will find the specs for the bulb and its true output. Yellow is good for flowering. Compact flourescents are great for vegging/cost of operation. The 6500 kelvin is like pure sunlight!!

Well I used to think it was all about gettinbg the best for your money but everyone seems to think buying a $600 LED light to veg a plant to 1 foot tall is a good way to invest their money so who knows what is really going one nowadays.

No one is buying the $600 lights, just people trying to sell them, when was the last time you said you got better results with HPS than MH and got called a dumbass that didn't know what they were talking about, accused of not being able to grow, accused of having a bad attitude, and a whole lot of other things ?

Now go make a post that says my MH outgrow my LED setup and see what happens.

Yeah you should be good I imagine that 100w light will output 10,000 lumens..For 3 plants you would yield more by throwing in some clf's during flowering
