HPS to LED Bad or Good?

So I'm new to the forum so hello!! I've been growing quite a while, mostly small closet grows using a 150watt hps and hydro. Probably a 2×3×7 producing between 4 to 7 oz depending on strain. I have recently got intrigued by a bestva 1000 watt LED. The veg seemed fairly decent node spacing a little futher than I like but decent. So I get into flower and notice light is not getting past the top of the plant at all!! So i get ride of some water leaves then more and more you get my point so I guess my question is how many watts LED would be comparable? Or is this why sea of green and other technics were invented? Due to the poor penetration of LEDs. I'm a bit old school I guess but it's legal here now not looking to go backwards, just because technology is moving forward. What's everyone's take on the LEDs?

Not familiar with the light but I also have gone through this.Turned out 1000 watt led was garbage,maybe true 150 watts.Have since changed leds to the 4'strip kind,50 watt ea.Doing much better.I still use my HPS for flower in my big room.

There is nothing wrong with LED's. But that Bestva 1000 watt is only pulling 185 watts. The marketing material says it replaces a 600 watt HPS but it doesn't and I have no idea why they call it a 1000 watt. That particular light isn't any better than what you were using before and I can guarantee that it does not replace a 600 watt HPS. If you want to go to LED you need to get a better light.

No the 1000 watt Bestva doesn't even have the penetrating power of the 150 HPS. Right now I'm using both, but I'm wondering if I should just get a larger HPS.

Yeah it doesn't even penetrate like the 150 HPS. I've got them both going now. Wondering if I should just get a bigger HPS.

that's 25watts/1sqft and with hps you should shoot around 40 up imo that's what I shoot for but rn im running two hlg 550s and a 600watt hps in a 4x8 and its running pretty nice so far

260w QB v2 3000k. Adjust wattage accordingly. Mine doesn’t ever make it past 200 watts in 2x2

40? interesting.my room is 5x5 not a tent i run 600 and its too much for my plants.@40 thats 1000 watt!

well whats your temps because im running at 48.75 Watts/sqft and my girls have had no problems at all

If you don't have heat issues, like growing in a tent, go 600 HPS and it will kick the shit out of a comparable LED.
Much cheaper, better light penetration and just all around better bud,
I grow 2 rooms, one with LED (cost me a lot) and the other HPS (cheap), and the difference is dramatic..
Go HPS, is you can handle the heat, that's their only weak point

Yeah the whole reason I even tried LEDs was the heat. During the winter it's no problem, the summer is a different story. I was basically trying to change lights in summer to avoid a ventilation system. I burnt two enormous buds and it made me sick!!!

Pinnacle's 360's at $300 each.
Good light, grow's decent bud, but in comparison HID grows better herb.
That's from my experience
A 400 HPS will work great for 2 plants, a 600 for 4 plants and a 1000 for 6 plants.
It all depends on your methods..
