I was looking at some led lights on kijiji and one person was selling lights from hydrogrowled.com and so I wanted to check out the site that he got the lights and make sure the pricing was fair based on what the retail price was but when I went to check it out the site appears to be offline but google did find this http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/hydro-grow-led-led-grow-lights/Henderson-Nevada-NV-89014/hydro-grow-led-led-grow-lights-Cammie-Mckenzie-Hydro-Grow-LED-HYDRO-GRO-LEDGirl-LED-955817

I'm not sure if there's a direct connection there or not but it does concern me somewhat.

Has anyone here got lights from this page and can they vouch for said lights?

HydroGrowLED is just another rebranded Chinese import using epi-whatever diodes with a lot of hype and markup. For the money, you'd be better off buying Area 51. If you really want HGL's quality/efficiency, go for TopLED/MarsHydro or Vipar(ebay). You'll spend much less.

HGL also has the distinction of being owned/affiliated with Cammie McKenzie, a controversial figure who has been reported to have threatened unhappy customers with "grassing out" to authorities. She also is known for posting to forums under psuedonyms, spreading FUD, etc. You can google the name. But, there's no point wasting your time on that kind of stuff.

Thank you for the reply, I guess that could be why the thing was only owned for a year "lightly used". I'm glad I looked into this a bit before making a purchase.

The led lights confuse me a little cuz their actual light output is off from the power that they use. So like a 600w led light may use 600w or it may be effectively 600w while only using 3-400w >,< (and the sites aren't always clear on that).
Of the ones that you suggested which are the best? I won't go for top led as their shipping costs to canada are insane. Mars hydro has best shipping costs but viper is only 15$ difference so I need to know if the viper lights are worth that extra 15 or if Mars hydro is just as good if not better than Viper? Also how are the 2 companies in their customer service? Will either accept returns if the customer is not satisfied?

Side question, I hear led lights run pretty cool compared to HPS lights. Do they put off any heat? Like in a closet that's 4X2 and running 78-80F(average) will it raise the temp above that and if so by how much?

I think Vipar(ebay) is more liked than Mars among the more knowledgeable here. (That's relative. Neither are recommended. But, if someone's looking for inefficient epi-whatever LED, those two seem safe, and the knowledgeable here seem to prefer Vipar.).

If heat is a concern, you should buy Area51. The inefficient epi-whatever lights produce as much heat as T5HO and perhaps HID. (I've never used HID.). The difference between efficient and inefficient is that you can run about 30-35w/sq ft (depending on the height of the plants) with efficient. You'll need 40-50w/sq ft of epi-whatever.

The heat in your closet will depend on the exhaust fan you use, how fast you need to replace the air to maintain the desired temperature. Whatever light you use, you'll need an exhaust fan to at least replace the air every 5 minutes. Faster if heat buildup is a problem.

Can't really say that I love the look or the prices of area 51..

I was kinda debating on these lights http://www.mars-hydro.com/reflector-led-grow-light-144-3w-100.html I like the look the design of the mars hydro reflector lights as well as the easy "growth" and "bloom" settings. Are these things just a fad though or would I be much better off to go for http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIPAR-600W-LED-Grow-Light-Hydroponic-5W-indoor-Plant-Panel-Flower-Full-Spectrum-/111329403349 which seems to be higher wattage for lower price but does it have settings for veg and flowering cycles? idk..

I guess the one on Ebay is out unless I can find one similar... for some reason it doesn't ship to Canada.. fuckers..

On second thought I'd rather get a wider response to this and this forum will not allow me to change the thread topic so please delete this thread if you see this mods, I'm gonna start one with a clearer topic.
