Hybridizing and Breeding questions

I have a question for those who have bred their own strains / someone who's worked a lot with breeding and genetics...
So let me get this right... to create a F1 hybrid, you would cross your best 2 plants... a female NL#5 with a male NYC Diesel, and the seeds would be F1. Annnnnnnd If you were to grow out those seeds then of this hybrid, then you cross your best ones... the resulting seeds would be F2 and not as great as the F1 because recessive traits start to pop up right? Is it possible to keep crossing your best plants for specific things... like smell/taste/resin production, or when you always cross your plants the potency degrades?

Also, does using a certain strain as the seed producing mother have any noticeable difference than using the other strain? I.E ( Male NYC x Female NL#5 ) vs. ( Female NYC x Male NL#5 ) Thanks !

I have never tried to breed but this sounds interesting. I don't see how crossing plants would lower their genetics unless you choose plants with bad genetics. If you keep improving each aspect then it can only get better. Not sure what F1 or whatever is....I think it is a term for people who sell seeds without breeder packs that were propagated from people who did not create the original strain.

If you cross two unrelated strains with eachother, you have created a F1. If you take these F1, and cross them back with the mother, this is called back crossing, and the resulting offspring will be F2. You can also create F2 by crossing the F1 x F1. Hope this helps ~~!

any breeders/ anyone else help me :[?
