Hydro vs Soil..extremely noob question

I have, what is probably a pretty dumb question, but I figured I'd ask it of the pro's here anyway. A lot of the hillbillies around here have been talking about how they can't afford hydro grown weed. They keep making comments like, "I know it's more potent, but I can't afford it" My question is, if the same strain/pheno are grown properly in soil or hydro, and had same harvest/dry/cure conditions, would the potency be about the same. I know that there's many many variable that come into play that can affect potency, but I didn't think that being grown hydro would inherently be the reason for higher potency. Will it?

Yes potency would be almost exactly the same if both were taken care of properly. Taste would be very close too. Size of the final plant in hydro might be bigger because hydro tends to grow faster but yeild should be similar leaning towards the hydro side.

But in the end strength is due to good genetics, good environment/lighting, and good ph/nute control.

Thanks Bud. That was what I was thinking

the street buyer doesn't know anything. what they call hydro could be soil or hydro -- how the fuck do they know? it's likely more like indoor vs outdoor, or even good weed vs crappy. Somewhere along the line some dealer told them "hydro" was better and showed them some gorgeous (and likely expensive) bud. to be honest, imo soil has more potential to be better tasting and more potent. hydro can be just as very tasty and potent as well, and will generally yield a bit better when grown to full potential.

the easiest hydro imo is hand water straight coco/perlite (75/25 mix). just like soil but you water more often and feed daily.

I use coco, which is basically hydro. Can only pass on others experience as I don't really have any of my own, but it's worth investigating in my opinion. It is said to be a very forgiving way for newbies to get into hydro.

If your a new grower I don't recommend you start in hydro, to easy tofuck up. Yield and potency will be approximately the same.

I remember some schmuck trying that one on me, but the smoke was the best I'd had bar the malawi imported that just plain knocked me out :)

If you are new to growing plants any kind of plants I would suggest soil. You generally speaking have more time to react and make changes when something goes wrong with a grow. I have a close friend that grows hydro and I am an outdoor/indoor soil grower. He gets a little more yield per plant, works a lot harder at it than I do. Once you have a good soil mix you are good to go. My soil takes me along pretty well with most strains, just adding some teas along the way and some minor adjustments as needed.
Your question on strength I believe has been pretty covered, about the same, personally I think my is stronger because of getting sunshine and helping to develop more trichomes, just my opinion.
