Hydro vs Soil

I'm using the BioCanna line. Seems just as much work as hydro, still have to mix nutrients and what not. But I never have to check the PH because its automatically adjusted for the specific soil I'm using. Also its impossible to test ppm in organics. So your saying that the nutrients I'm using dont have any content? Confused on that. Hydro is great if you have all one phenotype of a strain because everything usually wants the same amount of nutrients,(unless you have different res's for each strain, which is alot of work to me. I have 7 different strains going now and them being in individual pots it makes it easier to tend to each individual plant's needs. I've grown hydro before, pulled right at 5 1/4 lbs dried and cured from 12 plants with Botanicare's pure blend pro line. Everyone has their personal preference and are completely entitled to it. I just prefer organics.

Personaly, i think hydro just veg growth faster bigeer stockyer n stronger, but budding times are the same, known t get bigger buds off the hydro then plain compost!

Oh absolutely, thats all im saying is its preference. Im not against organic im using it right now, and mainly because i have multiple strains currently. I use mainly coco cut with a little compost and some amendments. I water with PBP also. And no i have never once checked my ph and thats nice but i just get tired of manually watering them, worry about run off, a little mess over here, getting rid of soil, so im going back to hydro, aero this time (done ebbNflo, drip, hempy) 1 strain, SOG. If you like Botanicare you should try their new organicare line, they have soil, slow release nutes, and liquid, all OMRI. I can personally say they are the best i have used for soil. With their soil and dry nutes i feed my plants 2 times during flower and they were some of the most beautiful ive had.:peace:

here is a good example go and by some fruits of various types the standard mass produced chem grown and some organically grown this is a simple no brainer organically grown fruits taste better ask a chef seriously. i vape my buds this way you really notice differences proper soil grows or better yet organic soil grows taste better than hydro. it has to do with what goes on in the root zone with various microrganisms that only really thrive in soil like conditions hence why i choose hempy as there is not too much compromise. i vape to get high but why not have good taste too.

hey man, I'm using DWC culture for the first time, and the growth has definitely been waaaay more fast and explosive then a plant I have goin in soil right next to it, to kinda compare the two. I have two different strains growing in the DWC, and there both doin bomb. one of the plants I started from seed and it was slow at first, but once it started gettin huge ass roots (about 1.5-2 feet currently :) ) the rest of the growth took off. same with the clone I have in there, the roots had amazing growth and now its showing it in veg.

+1

Just go to your local grocery store and get some "regular" tomatoes and then get some organic ones --- absolutely NO comparison taste-wise. The standard commercially-grown tomatoes will look fantastic and I'm sure they grow quicker and with less problems --- but they taste like shit compared to the good organically grown ones. It's all a case of personal preference and what your objectives are.

I have no problem with hydro and will probably give it a whirl myself one day. But for my current needs, growwing in FF soil works just fine, is cheap, and everything I need I can get from a store less than 5 miles from my house. Growing indoors in soil doesn't require any investment in specialized equipment (except for lighting and a PH meter), and is no mess for me.

BUT, to paraphrase a previous poster, it's the grower more than the method used! You can grow world-class Ganja via any of the known methods IF you know how.

Give the absolute best equipment/nutes/genetics/etc to someone who doesn't have a clue and he'll grow schwag.

Give crappy equipment/average nutes/bagseeds to a good experienced grower and he'll still produce some top-shelf weed!!

That SHOULD be why most of us are here in the first place --- to learn how to be better growers, not to learn about the latest fad/method (you can find THAT info in any number of publications). But, like most everything else in this crazy world, that is purely subjective.

As long as you're happy with your end results it's all good!!!!!:peace:

this is what everyone says but they never take into consideration that you are buying your samples from 2 different sources! Oh course they will taste different. Commercial isnt trying to produce tasty food, they are producing quantity. It s pretty simple, plants require a list of nutrients, no more no less, hydro plants use the same thing as soil plants. There is absolutely zero proof that organic taste better than chemical, it has never been proven and the debate has been going for a while. I bet you most people that say the organic is better knows its organic before they eat it, in a blind taste test most will fail.:bigjoint:

i agree that "Better taste" is always a matter of opinion. it cant be proved that organic or hydro tastes better, cause one person may love the taste of fertilizers or chemicals lol. Idk.. right now I have 3 white widow seedlings rooted in rockwool and cant decide if i should put all in hydro, all in soil, or a couple of one, one of the other.

I'm just worried I'll have everything growin good and then have somethin happen cuz i dont have the right equipment for hydro. So I may put the three into soil originally then take clones and mess around with those :)

I've grown the same strain in soil and hydro and you can't tell the difference! I can't and none of my pot smoking buddies can.

I admit there must be some difference, but I think it's all pretty silly. Organic, blah blah blah. I don't pay more for organic shit at the grocery store and I don't care about smoking organic bud. I've never heard of anyone dying or being harmed by consuming non-organic food. It's all a bunch of bullshit to get you to pay more for your shit.

I do know about the environmental impacts that non-organic fertilizers have on our planet and that the practices in the fields today are far less than responsible, but when it comes to growin' bud it's too much of a stretch for me. I'd rather have the bigger yield all day long. But then I don't sell my bud, I smoke it all up myself. So the more the merrier of course.

And I certainly wouldn't call bud grown with chem ferts "synthetic" it was grown from a plant. Using the same elements that organic growing derives naturally from it's sources. It's not chemically derived, the plant was fed with fertilizers that came in the form of salts, it's not bio-engineered shit here.
I agree partially, but You can tell the difference if you don't flush correctly with some brands of nutes.

im not biased towards chem ferts i often use them depending but seems your arguing for the sake of argument. i know for a fact from experience(grown them) that organically grown fruits and veggies taste superior its also the same with meat free range grain fed animals tastes better than mass produced corn and blood meal fed animals. this is not as good a comparison as with the fruits and veggies but the point is when you do things as close as you can to nature which the plants genetics were built for over millenia you get better results there are no short cuts. same with humans if you eat organic meats and organic sourced fruits veggies and grains your health will be superior than if you live on processed crap foods our bodies dont recognize or know how to handle. this is not really oppinion all these things i have experienced with my own body my plants etc.. if you want to grow with chem ferts no problem but to say simply that organics dont taste better and dont have superior nutrition(vitamin/mineral profiles) is a bold statement im not the type to be swayed by fads or popular oppinion these are conclusions i have come to based on my own testing and experience.

Sorry but it still hasnt been proven, there has never been evidence other than somebodies opinion. And chemical isnt a short cut, its a lot more work than organic to get it right, thats probably why most people say organic is better, they just havent used chemicals properly. Sorry a plant takes in chemical nutes the same as they do organic, its all the same to them, as long as they get what they need. And are all the soil born diseases and pests that are attracted to the organic materials going to get you the best results? See just because it comes straight from nature doesnt mean its the best.:weed:

i grow both ways or sometimes a combo im not against any method. with organics particularly in soil microbial activity is enhanced by the presence of organics which are broken down and to some degree consumed by various micro organisms present in these conditions sugars aminos etc are produced at the root level these things have an effect on the plant. none of that matters though what i know is that i have had a number of clone strains for years and have grown them many ways when it comes to taste organic soil grows are #1 its not opinion but what i have experienced running the same clone different ways. grow how you would like but for taste if thats the goal soil/organic is the ticket. yield speed etc... are better achieved with other methods.

People keep saying "that's just opinion", Fuck, it's ALL just opinion!!! There is NOT a way to quantify how high a strain will get you versus others, or how it will taste versus weed grown by another method. If you can't numerically quantify it, then it's all subjective, NOT objective. This whole concept of Hydro vs soil is nothing but opinionated BS in the first place!!! Everybody has different likes/dislikes and to sit here and argue over one being better than another is just high school punk bullshit. Just do whatever suits YOUR tastes --- there is no right or wrong. Which is better? It's all just opinion, and I assume we all know the old saying about those, now don't we?????

Well said there are too many different opinions to make a conclusion that one is better, all im saying is that it cant be PROVEN that one is better than the other, thats great about personal experiences and all but scientist are much better at setting up an exact experiment and they cant even prove that one is better than another.:joint:

i would say grow clones side by side all things the same besides ferts and mediums you will get 2 different tastes from the same clone i have done this a number of times. flower structure is different visible look is different and smell and taste are different still the same strain of course but there are noticeable changes to the end product. particularly with soil and organics you get more of the earthy undertones to flavor that i like. i only vape and anyone who vappes knows you can taste buds and suttle differences much better than when smoking.

Alright, that's EXACTLY what I'm going to do....

Please visit this thread and give me your input! I've only grown hydro so I need some guidance on the organic/soil portion.
