yO peeps.

I heard the use of hydrogen peroxide mixed with water can be beneficial when used for watering as it can help prevent root rot as well as gnat larvaes.

i got this information when trying to find a solution for fungus gnats.

Just wondering if anyone uses this and if so how frequently ?
could it always be used instead of plain water

why are you worried about root rot?let the medium dry out completely before you water again, make sure there in big enough pots also... to control gnats and other crawling insects larve put a 4th to half inch of course sand on top of your medium....hydrogen peroxide when added to the medium will kill bad microbes and bacterias, but it also kills all the good ones too! I use mykos and azos (mycorrhizae)( Azospirillum) ,so hydrogen peroxide is out of the question for me too use....

I sometimes dump some peroxide into my DWC reservoir, but it kills all the bacteria, bad and good so it's a double edged sword. It won't hurt your plants, it actually turns into oxygen and will oxygenate the roots for a period of time. At the most I'd do it once a week in my opinion, if you're serious, but it's pretty unnecessary.

im not worried about root rot, i just stumbled on this technique while trying to find a solution for fungus gnat and was wondering if people actually did this as it was a pretty convincing article lol.
i will definitely try the sand method as well as today i noticed more adult gnats ... > <

mm definitely sounds like a double edge sword as it gets rid of the good bacteria as well, thanks for the info guys.

It's only really of any use in DWC IMO. And only then if you're running it sterile...
Which I am..so I do.
Greenerer!?

Google sez: "Some horticulturalists and users of hydroponics advocate the use of weak hydrogen peroxide solution in watering solutions. Its spontaneous decomposition releases oxygen that enhances a plant's root development and helps to treat root rot (cellular root death due to lack of oxygen) and a variety of other pests."

wow some good input....i use H2O2 for misting the bottom of my pot (yes i use soil) and maybe, sometimes, i mist the soil a tad. but thats it.

but i will def. check out 420GOD's link. i always wondered how much of a difference it makes. im not relly worried about root rot. like
lxyzeroomer said if u water it right= nothing too much to worry about.

what im wondering does the h2o2 make for better root development and enhnced growth?????????????????????????

best wishes & happy growing........................joey

I've used it many times. Buy the 3% in the brown bottle for like a dollar at a grocery store.

I use about one tablespoon or so per gallon of water. Sometimes a bit more. Plants do seem to love it
and it works to get rid of gnats. It kills all their larve in the soil and considering how short their lifespans
are...that'll solve your problem in 2 weeks max.
