hydroponic grow in aquarium help

hey guys look at my set up, curious if i would need a water filter to help keep the water clean. Also (1) would there be a better way for me to set up this aquarium than what i arleady have going - like is this as effective as an ebb n flow system? For my soiless medium i am using strictly perilite - (2)will this be okay? Also (3) is there anything else i need to focus on, like maybe getting more bubbles in there, and how do i know if i have enough?
and lastly (4) is it possible for the plant to be overwater plants in hydroponics(b/c its literally sittin on the water), or does the perilite protect against that. Thanks!

Below are 3 pictures of what my aquarium looks like after its set up. I am currently attempting to grow basil and after i get the get go from you guys i will be attempting to harvest.
One of the pictures is inside the cup showing the amount of air bubbles that are constantly inside the netted cup.
The last image added is the image i used to build it.

specs are 20 gallon tank, 40 gallon pump, 3 airstones and 4 netted pots. My water is looking dirty arleady after 5 hours, would investing in a water filter be good (and would it take away from the nuts in the water) thanks!.

You won't hurt anything with a filter, but it isn't necessary.....considering most plants grow in dirt :-)

I do believe though, your water level should be just below the bottom of the net pots...like a half inch to inch below.

Other than that, should work fine...thinking of popping something like this up one day as ebb/flow...which for that you need a couple pipes plumbed into the tank for filling and draining.

Peace - OGH

Looks good, should work. I like the fish tank idea, wonder if theres any small fish that could live in there without doing harm to the plants? If that sounds ridiculous blame the wake n bake.

if i were to buy an water filter to help clean the water, would the water filter take away from my nutrients? Also even though the bubbles are bubbling up into the pots, is it enough to stimulate growth or should i add a more intense bubble systme.
