Hydroponic Reservoir Filter

Anyone already tough or did try some kind of aquarium filter to keep the reservoir clean? Not a filter with carbon activated, just the pre-filter/foam in.

Any Pros or Cons?

I was thinking at a Fluval filter.

I'll be using coco/perlite medium and I would like to put a filter on the return line. Just a fine foam or a fine mesh cloth.

Is it a bad idea? Will it somehow "filter" out the nutes too?
