In my experience, it is true. They are definitely there to preserve workers rights. The ones that pay them anyways.

They aren't perfect or anything, and I'm sure union corruption exists. But the bottom line is that unions are the only group who is strong enough to lobby for workers rights on a national level effectively.

i don't think i said you were abusing it, just funny how you rail against it while taking the dough anyway. it reminds me of a caller that called in to NPR the other day bemoaning the evils of wealth redistribution that are farm subsidies in a slow, kentucky drawl. then when terry gross asked him if he was taking the payments, he impotently answered 'yes'.

i can't say i am as bad off as you may be, i do not have to support my wife and i have no kids.
it probably feels pretty damn rough out there right now, but you never know when that big break will come through. i sure as hell didn't.
