Well I could be wrong, but I believe a "strain" is an old, old wooden ship used during the Civil War era.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_sativa#C._sativa_subsp_indica

strain n.
1. The collective descendants of a common ancestor; a race, stock, line, or breed.
2. Any of the various lines of ancestry united in an individual or a family; ancestry or lineage.
3. Biology A group of organisms of the same species, having distinctive characteristics but not usually considered a separate breed or variety: a superior strain of wheat; a smooth strain of bacteria.

And there are plenty of banks that ship to the US. I personally have used Nirvana and Attitude.
I prefer Attitude's genetics.

most commonly seeds will be a cross strain of sativa and indica(i.e 60% indica+40%sativa).

I have 3 4 inch pots with 2 regular mid-grade seeds in each pot. will that work or should i get a bigger pot? How much could each plant possibly produce..? please excuse me, I just started this like 3 days ago and these are questions i could not find anywhere else....I need alotta help..lol

So whats up with the tub of water under the pots? Some kind of self watering set up you got going there? I wouldnt do that if that is what you got going on. If you keep the soil wet then you will likely get root rot or fungus nats. Just put the empty tub under them to catch excess run off

ditto.../\

seeds should be started 1 per cup, and get some of the "daylight" (6500k) CFLS... can be found at walmart 7$ for a 2 pack

Cfls should be within 4 inches of the top of the plant

There are various seedbanks that will ship to the U.S. You can find attitude Seeds here: http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/ you can find Hemp Depot here: http://www.hempdepot.ca/ you can find Hemcy here: http://www.hemcy.com/ you can find Legends here: http://www.legendsseeds.com/ you can find PeakSeedsBC here: http://www.peakseedsbc.com/ all are good.

There are three basic types of marijuana plants. Marijuana sativa, marijuana indica and marijuana ruderalis. The most popular types are sativa and indica. Indica plants are shorter bushier and a higher yield and have more of a couch-lock stone/body buzz and sativas are taller and thinner and have a lower yield and will produce a clear soaring cerebral head high.

Of course most strains are hybrids created by crossing different types of sativa and different types of indica strains.

In a more detailed form:

Fat Leaves and Short Bush = INDICA

Thin Leaves and Tall Bush = SATIVA

Sativas are just about the opposite of Indicas. They are tall, thin plants, with much narrower leaves and grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 20 feet in a single season.

They originally come from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia. Once flowering has begun, they can take anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks to fully mature.

Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity. Sativa's higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, soaring type of high, more energetic which can stimulate brain activity and may produce hallucinations.

Sativa plants are taller, take longer to mature, have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Sativa strains have less chlorophyll than Indica they take longer to grow, mature, and require more light.

Sativa typically takes longer to germinate and flower also, and grows more gangly then Indica breeds.
Yield is usually lower than Indica, but is very potent. Thai Sativa grows taller and has a longer flowering period, so they are better suited for outdoors.

Indicas originally come from the hash producing countries of the world like Afghanistan, Morocco, and Tibet. They are short dense plants, with broad leaves and often grow a darker green. After flowering starts they will be mature in 6 to 8 weeks.

The buds will be thick and dense, with flavors and aromas ranging from pungent skunk to sweet and fruity. The smoke from an Indica is generally a body type stone, relaxing and laid back. Indica's higher CBD than THC equals a much heavier, sleepy type of high. Indica plants have a heavy, stony high that is relaxing and can help different medical problems.

Indica yield is usually higher than Sativa, and shorter growing season. Better for indoor growing, because they don't get as tall.

Indica plants are short, bushy, mature early, have more chlorophyll and less accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Indica strains have more chlorophyll than sativa they grow and mature faster.

Combining different indicas, different sativas or a combination thereof creates hybrids. The resulting hybrid strains will grow, mature and smoke in relationship to the indica/sativa percentages they end up containing.

when using cfls you want to keep them 1-3 inches from your plants. or they will streck like crazy. try to findsome higher wattage cfls. you will need more then just that 1. go to lowes, home depo or menards get a 3 light vanty then atach apower cord to that if you then add some y spliters you will have plenty of light you should read through the grow faq (you find that at the top of the page.) you can get theanswers to most of your questions there.if your budget allows put mylar on thewalls if not yoywigght paintwill work. i would put pie tins under your pots the cardboard might invitemold after itgets wet.you don't want mold. getan osalating fan. to help give your plants strong stems. the cfls you want to getare 6500k light range.
theones that have daylight or cool white on the package. those have more blue light. the soft white are forflowering around 2700k. gl on yourgrow may you be cursed with many buds

I prefer Attitude's genetics.

To be technical Attitude Seeds does not have any genetics of its own since genetics come from each individual breeder and not from a seedbank that purchases seeds from breeders and then resells them. That means what you like is the various different lines of breeder genetics/strains that Attitude offers for sale.

Attitude, and of course also other seedbanks, sell various different breeders lines but the genetics are that of each individual breeder whose strains they sell and no seedbank alone, meaning a pure seedbank and not a breeder who has their own seedbank and sells their own genetics and also possibly the genetics of other breeders, can lay claim to any breeders genetics.

I dont know man, I got confused with some things reading something from google. I was thinking that the water would naturally absorb to the plants, like hydro set ups..but these are reg. mid-grade seeds so that wont work huh?

no what you are doing wont work.

you cant use soil for hydro ... thats the whole point... look at some of the DWC threads in here to see what a hydro set up looks like

" like hydro set ups..but these are reg. mid-grade seeds so that wont work huh?"

haha... you are confused.... "hydro" is not a strain/seed.... it is a method of growing and will work with any seeds

Yeah you need to let your soil dry out. Over watering can cause a entire list of different issues. Just water your plants when they are dry about 1-2" down or pick up the pot after you water it and when it feels a bit lighter you know its time to water. Slowly water until a fair amount of water has run out the bottom. So you will need something under the pots to catch the water. That tub will work just fine as soon as the water is outta it :^P

You may want to just stick with a soil or soil-less (Promix for example) grow if it's your first time - hydro is alot more technical and expensive when just starting out... If you're going with cfl lights, you'll for sure want some kind of reflective walls around the plants, as you don't want to waste ANY light. For reflective material, use mylar or even just some of that silver-shiny-backed wrapping paper (which is a type of mylar). If you use tin-foil, make sure to have the dull side of it facing out towards your plants - the shiny side actually absorbs light.

As for the fan, be carefull not to turn in on too high - just enough to keep the plants moving just slightly. That may mean directing it away from the plants and getting the air to just curculate and move in the space... as long as it creates some sway-motion on the plants so it will help their stems get stronger and thus thicker. You'll be glad you did this early in the grow, as down the road they'll be able to stand up straighter and handle more of those huge, weighty buds!

Cool! im on top of it. So will the mid grade seeds produce buds or pollen? I tried to read the 101 already answered questions board, and i got alotta information. This is my question, male and female plants and mothers. I couldnt fully understand it.. I got that you dont want male plants because they produce pollen and not buds. but i didnt get how if i plant a seed i will not know what i got male/female until a certain time when the plant sprouts. All males are not wanted, throw the males away.

you have to grow them out for about a month and watch for signs of sex.... take a look at the FAQ for sexing.

another option is to order FEM seeds ... 80% they are female

a "mother" is just a grown female that you take clones from
which ensures FEMALE clones bongsmilie
