One of my girls best friends is our cat! I have had these two for over eight-nine years now. When the wood stove is fired, they often curl up with each other on the rug and groom. Giver me a fuzzy fellin' inside.
Both my dogs are off-leash trained, by me, as I have many years working with canines and animals in general.
It comes down to being able to communicate to your dog that cats are to be left alone. Not beating them...but communication that canines can understand. It sounds like yr neighbor might not have the skills to train his dog correctly...
I would worry, too. In incapable hands, strong, untrained dogs are dangerous and a liability. Maybe you can get ahold of the landlord and inform him of the situation? Most landlord's insurance will have a stipulation against pit bulls...just a thought.
I also have six laying hens that are allowed free range in the yard; dogs, cats, and chickens all living in harmony. The hens actually chase the cats around!
