I have monster fan leaves...

And, while I know there is no agreement on the subject, should I trim just the super huge fan leaves that are shading plants beside them? I have bloombox so I can't just space things out more- space is limited. I don't want to defoliate just give the others a chance to thrive.

Imo those big beauties are doing a good
job right where they are.
I'm not involved with defoliation or not controversy.
I'm speaking from a simple grower standpoint. lol

I'm betting few will buy this but sometimes the larger sized foliage is a function of lower light levels or different light properties...
you will see this phenomenon in certain alleged "low light" house plants like philodendrons and such that will actually respond to higher light levels with smaller than normal foliage....

I've noticed a similar thing with MJ under T5 as opposed to HID (and yeah, this isn't a "absolute" so don't start ...ha ha)

I said all that to say, keep the foliage at least until you flip to flower, then see how it goes in so far as bud sites, et go...BTW do you scrog?

Those are baby leaves. Lol. Just messin. What I do is tuck the leaf under the bud if possible. Better than removing the leaf.

light fades very quickly according to the inverse square law, so if you try and remove the bigger leaves at the top of the plant in an effort to get more light to lower sections of the plant, you're really cutting off your nose to spite your face..
even the leaves just one foot down will only be receiving 1/2 the light as the leaves a foot above them.. those big leaves up towards the top of the plant are really doing the most work for the plant, not the smaller ones nearer the bottom..

These are already in flower (16 days actual flowers showing) under a 400 watt HPS with t5 and co2. My h20 temp averages 65-68F, the box temp ranges from 68F overnight to 80F during the peak of the day. They perspire like crazy, good air movement, ph been a bit of a problem but usually 5.6 - 6.0, tds is about 800 ppm....what else ... 2 strains...chemo and C99xDeepChunk. They have a very subtle odour that I didn't really notice until I was out of the room. It looks like tons of little flowers down low but the canopy is so thick. I have trimmed off leaves that were light burnt or yellowing or dead, but other wise I haven't touched them at all.

Just an update..it's so cool...the big monsters I was concerned about are starting to yellow and die, and the new leaves are smaller, and more slender but there are buds everywhere! It still doesn't smell much unless I touch them, but it's hardly noticeable. I have a harvest question...should i do it in stages given that the lower buds might not be as ready as the top buds?

If you haven't defoliated throughout the plants life then no I wouldn't remove any leaves as you may put the plant into shock, which will extend your flower time and may effect your yield.

Don't be afraid of defoliation in the future though, but just learn how do do it properly!

Yes. With the strength of the lighting you have. That will improve the total harvested quality a lot! Tiny airy popcorn buds suck,,,,,,,,,unless you use them for edibles as in butters or oils.
I'm a member of the "lollypop" guild (LOL) and trim back my girls at the flip to form only "main" type cola's......No plants wasting it's time on spindly little lower branching/suckers and p-corn buds. Search lollypopping and see what I'm talking about.
