Shit man your gettin way better than me. I gotta fill my oxygen and start making some new shit. Do you use a kiln or fiber blanket?

How much did that badboy cost and how much room is in there? I really need one because my thick pieces always crack in my fiber blanket

the kiln was 600.

when you heat glass and move it around it disrupts the molecule structure. different colors heat and cool at different temps and speeds. if you don't use a kiln these differences will stress against each other and cause cracking. using the kiln brings the glass to a temp that it can "relax" at. it relaxes and evens out. everything cools at a slow even temp. it becomes "annealed" or hardened.

ever have a pipe that you just tapped wrong and it exploded into pieces? it probably wasn't annealed.

i hate that. i have a few that cracked even after being annealed. one of my best ones. cracked all the way down the full length of the stem. from the mouthpiece to the bowl. not sure when it actually happened, but it's cracked. you can only see it in the sunlight. :cuss:

any way to repair hairline cracks like that without harming the color and shape?
sometimes, they close right up. it's pretty cool to watch. i can take a piece of cracked clear tubing, hold it in the flame and just watch the crack disappear. other times it curls back like a potato chip or just explodes.

did you know you can cut hot glass with a pair of fiskars? it's pretty cool. :bigjoint:

He was showing me how you don't look suspicious because you don't have to lift the pipe all the way to your mouth. He was pretty serious which made it even more funny. They wanted $70 for that sherlock though. Too much IMO it was just clear green not much of an art glass piece.

this is the part i don't get. so it's 5 pieces put together. so what? and the same old wig wag that you see everywhere. it's seems like a lot of glass blowers are just out to prove how good they are. otherwise they would all have their own styles and not try to perfect the same thing everyone else is doing.

i go to the pipe shop, ........... "do you want the blue inside-out or the green?" so boring.

this is just my opinion, but it's one of the main reasons i started blowing glass. i couldn't find a simple hash pipe that worked for me. they were all the same.
