I just took a clone from a flowering plant...

On one of my plants, I took a small branch off hoping to turn it into a clone. Now, I've grown many plants this summer, but they've all been started from my, or some company's seed. I have a good idea how to clone... cut at 45 deg angle, use gel/powder/liquid and get a good portion of the stem covered, and plant in a moist soil mixture, etc etc.

Taking a clone during flowering isn't recommended, I know... Risks of stress killing the plant an all that jazz, but I have a few questions.

I attached some pictures of the cutting I took.

About 5 inches of the stem is submerged below the surface of the soil, covered in Shultz Take Root. Is the cutting to big, do I need to trim the stem more? Also, do I need to remove more leaves, or will this be fine to support itself through the stress of going back into veg.

I know the light cycle of 24/0 is reccomended for a while... but is 20/4 fine? Also, will this sucessfully work... taking this big clone and putting it back into veg?

Also, I plan to mix a foliar feed mix to use on the plant every day. Do I need to keep the soil moist, or can I let it dry out so the roots search for water--- and get alot of water in thru foliar feeding instead?

I will use 2-4 drops of Superthrive per gallon to help the stress, and some Vitamin B1 to help the roots.

Will any of the following be usefull to help in the cloning process?:
Sea Kelp Extract, Fish Emulsion, Bat Guano ( P ), Molasses, Root Cloning Powder( add some to water, lol? ), and some bloom nutes along with epsom salts.

How can I keep this flowering clone alive... and force it back into veg sucessfully, this is my first clone ^^

Thanks!:bigjoint:

stays relevant.
It needs to be reveg'd and cared for well. All nutrients should be veg nutes, veg light cycle, and not too much light.

The clones not too big? 4-6 Big leaves, with other smaller ones. If you look at the picture, do you recommend I cut off the flowering top, and just leave on the 2 fan leaves, and veg that?

Thanks :D Can I give nutes full strength, or will those burn roots or whatever?

I know clones are supposed to look like they're dying when they're growing roots... so I pose to you some questions.

Its been about 1-2 weeks already since I planted it in soil with rooting powder, and I foliar fed it twice a day with a solution of fish emulsion, vitamin b1, and superthrive. I only did this for 2-3 days, and then stopped.

The 2 most bottom fan leaves on the clone, are now yellowing in a similar fashion that you see when a plant is using up the nutrients for budding, with signs of nute burn.. however I dont know forsure or if this is likely.

Is the yellowing of the leaves the telling sign that its starting to root finally? :D The clone was from a flowering plant, and the pistols are still on the plant. What will happen to these... when will they burn off and die... the ones on the bottom pretty much have, but not the top ones

thanks

feeding nutes to a new clone isnt good for them .. water only until its rooted and then nutes in its 2nd or 3rd week after that.
clones may wilt slightly within hours of being cut but foliar feeding water by way of a spray bottle should clear this right up and they shouldnt ever look like they are dying ... if they do ... they are.
also taking clones from a flowering plant is difficult to say the least they take much longer than the 5 to 10 days to root ... somewhere closer to 20 days and then take a while longer to revert back to vegetative growth.
indirect lighting from a CFL on a 24 hour light cycle is also advised for cloning

You should've titled the thread "I just harvested a week old bud"

Look up more info on cloning, sorry to be harsh but that girl doesn't have a chance.

:weed: to answer your last question yes when the lover leaves start to yellow it means she feeding off herself to produce roots and yeah the existing buds will rippen and dry and fall off I've had to do this in a pinch a few times...don't worrie she'll be growing again soonbongsmilie

I had 4 large flowering clones and they all grew very healthy, eventually. At first they became severely deformed but they bounced back big time. It did take quite a while for them to root, 2-3 weeks. The bud on top will die when it re-veges and it will act like a topped plant. I think your clone is too large. It wont increase the growth rate taking a clone that large, in fact it will probably slow initial growth. I would cut off the bottom leaves, shorten the clone, re-pot it with lots of rooting hormone, then i would cut the large fan leaves left in half. Too many large leaves absorb too much light and when the plants try to use that energy, they will not be able to soak up enough water and they will die.

I guess everyone has their own way....the thicker the stem the harder to clone.....and all that I clone large and don't use rooting horemone I do soak it H2o2 water solution for a few min and put right in the soil and I don't cut leaves to slow transpiration as I keep temp in low 70's and humidity near 70% I have 95 % grow just my way I think it will be just fine why not leave well enough alone

After many many days ( 2+ weeks ), It seems as if the clone has rooted. All the pistils on the top of the plant are turning brown and dieing, however all the other pistils on the plant are still white. Leaves are slowly yellowing, is it ok to give it a solution of nitrogen, and do clones burn like new plants, or will it not because its a large cutting?

Cut some of the fan leaves in half, a lot of people do this so the plant concentrates more of it's energy on growing roots than on the Leaves.

Hope this helps.
I'd be surprised to see this work.
:)

Next time, keep a mother plant :D :D

Just in case anyone cares, this experiment has once again reassured my confidence in the cannabis plant, lol. After my chronicles of growing this summer, I've undoubted learned a lot, and one thing I have learned is EXPERIENCE IS MORE THAN WORDS, haha. People are conformed to a strict guidelines of growing pot, and if you dont do this, or if you do that, your plant will die, hermie, stress out, etc.... Don't take other peoples word for things... do it yourself and you will learn invalueble lessons.

Yes, the plant grew strong roots ( I'm not sure when.... because I planted the cutting in soil ), but it took many weeks (2-4) for the cutting to show new growth. Many many new leaves are forming, and it seems as all the old pistols are turning into leaves. I'll post pictures tommorow, but it's doing fantastic! I transplanted it a few days ago from a red cup, to a 1.3 gallon pot that I think I'll keep it in so it dosnt grow too large. The soil is 10% worm castings, 10% vermiculite, and what seems around 30-40% soil and 30-40% perlite. I also added in some High N guano and Mycorrize.

It loves this mix so far... all green and new growth out the wazzoo. :] So... taking clones from plants 2-4 weeks in floweing is HIGHLY POSSIBLE.... the only difference I see is that it will take MUCH LONGER TO ROOT AND GROW, because the plant has to deal with all the pistils. Funny thing is, this was my first clone and I rocked it :p

The mother plant I took it from has 3-4 weeks of flowering left, and the strain is Unknown since it's bagseed, however it has a very lemony smell mixed with a hint of some foul oder I cant put my finger on, and its Indica dominant in the leaves.

If I end up liking the finished bud... Ill keep that clone as a mother and maybe use it to breed.

Congratulations :bigjoint:

I didn't think you'd pull it off, +rep.

It takes some skill to revert a flowering plant to clone.

-It sounds like a Columbian strain, lemony and indica looking... If it's anything like a strain I grew that had a lemon flavor and came from an old hippie's columbian... It'll take 60+ days to bloom.

Bagseed is hard to know the flowering period, I hope this helps. :peace:

Yes the flowering is so long!!! It smells like a slightly foul smell with lots of lemon, and plants can grow huge if planted outdoors, not that many trichs but they build up towards the end. Hopefully the high is a very powerful body stone... Indica's have a special place in my heart!! haha
