I know tin foil is bad but how about this?

So this just sprouted and a new box has to be constructed to hold it, it will have a space blanket instead of the foil but I want this baby to have some good light!

I know people say "Get rid of the foil!" with some grow boxes, but this is open to the air air, not close to the plant, and under 1x 42w (full spectrum) CFL (Cost like 7 bucks or something at home depot but fuck it)

Thanks for the input, this guy was planted DEEP into the soil and feels real strong!

it's not the air that is a problem it is how foil focuses the light and causes burns from hot spots

*Leans up, removes foil, wads up into ball, shoots into trash can*

That cleared up what I thought about foil, I heard it cooks your plants but I thought thats because it retained and radiated heat. Interesting.

Do you have any suggestions for impromptu reflection material? Its on a dark brown table with dark purple walls right now sprouting

That setup will work great. When you use fluoro lighting, you don't have to worry about 'tinfoil hotspots' harming your plant, like you do when you use HIDs. Those bulbs aren't powerful enough to do any damage. So, what you are doing, is taking advantage of as much light as possible, which is a smart move. Yeah, mylar or flat white paint are more efficient reflectors, but the foil will work much better than having nothing at all.

Wait, I'm using a 42w cfl, its somewhat hot to the touch.

I have the plant sitting on some DVD-RW's so its closer to the light right now.

Use plain white paper. When I was fluor only I would tape together sheets of paper and lay it over the top of the light housing so it would hang over each side of the light and reflect the light back in. Keep the air moving as said above.

I used emergency blankets from walmart. They seem to reflect light extremely well and there only like 2 bucks (in the camping section). They are 52"X82.5" so they cover alot of space.

Rookie; Are you using some sort of backing for your blankets for stability? Also, how is the heat situation when using an emergency blanket?
