What are hydroton clay pebbles and how are they used?

does it have anything to do with rock wol?

its just a medium to grow youe plants in. your rock wool cubes are wat you put your plants in to root through then they are planted in what ever medium you desire. hydroton rock if thats wat you prefer

lol.. you bury the cube in the rocks like you would dirt. when you water the water drains through the hydroton rock.

They are normally used in Hydro/Aeroponics systems.

Hydroton clay pebbles is a medium used threw out hydroponics.
Rock wool is too.
They sell rock wool in blocks that can be fitted into a bigger one and so on, so that all you can use is just rock wool.
Or you can use just hydroton, or a mixture of hydroton and rockwool pieces like I do.

Rockwool starting cubes are great for clones! They are 2"x2" (even get smaller "plugs" if ya want) and then once they root in that you can either bury it in soil, place it in a hydro system or the next size rockwool cube.
Using one or the other and a combination of each will impact the amount and frequency of watering.
First learn about growing in hydroponics. I am sure once you read into it you will see how each of these play a part.
