I need clarification... Cuttings the hardest part.

Alright, so I've managed to get by the last year doing things how I've been doing them, but I hit little walls along the way that frustrate the hell out of me...

I just have a few questions that I feel would really make things easier and allow me to understand better. Any info will help.

When I start a plant that will become a new mother, I wait 3 weeks until topping it... After I top the plant I know I need to let it veg a little before I can take my first round of cuttings. Last time I topped it and let it veg a little then took cuttings, after I took my cuttings I started seeing every new growth develop 3 to 4 leaf patterns. After topping am I supposed to wait another 3 weeks before taking cuttings? Does anyone have any other reason why I'm running into this problem?

Nobody has ever dealt with this problem before? I tried finding some literature on it, but nothing I've found addresses this situation exactly.

Just have a little patience. The guys/gals here who really know their shit don't sit behind the computer all day. The are actually out doing the things they give advice on.
It might take a bit but you'll get your answer, I promise you. I've had to wait a bit for an answer before, but it was right on the money.

Wherever you take cuttings during vegg stage I would think it would sort of act as if topped and the growing tip would multiply. Are you sure your cutting at the right spot, maybe thats just the way it is,

Why is it a problem?

u can cut at a 5 leaf pattern. for health cuttings chose the ones with 2 sets of fan leaves, one by the cola and the next 1/2" above where your gonna make ur cut. this should give you and idea where u stand with ur plant depending on how big u wanna make ur cuttings. after cutting then you top ur plant. for each cola u top that stem will induce new grow outward for ur next set of cutting which should be more than ready by the time you flower and harvest its prior batch.
