No dude, definately not true. You need a warrant in order for them to be usable in court, but they arnt illegal. They can be used in 1 of two ways;
1) we are on to you, we have evidence, we are getting a warrant and this will seal the deal for a search
2) we think you may be growing, we are going to do an illegal scan and not tell you, if it turns out positive we are going to watch you like a hawk.
Keep in mind, police dont need a warrant to do ANYTHING! they just need a warrant if they want to use it in court. Sure, they say its illeagal to do scans and to enter your property but thats a bunch of BS, whens the last time u heard of a cop even losing his job due to illeagal activity? killing and beatin people everyday. In fact theyve even been putting tracking devices on cars without warrants lately, and the supreme court said they had the right to do it as long as they wherent entering LOCKED private property, so they can even do it if ur car is on ur own damn property, they just cant break any locks to get to your car.
Should you be worried about thermo scans? probably not, they usually only use it if they already have you. But you dont want to be the unlucky son of a bitch whos house lights up when they are searching for a fugitive or doing training with the thermo equipment, it just leads bad places...
