I need some expertise...

Ok, so this year's growing season has been shit for all crops in my region. The potatoes growing outside and next to the greenhouse have finished two weeks ago and now both my plants are starting to turn yellow and die.

I've tried to keep the temp warm at night in the greenhouse because it's getting hella cold outside (had several frosts already), but it tends to make it very moist inside the greenhouse. I noticed some bud rot in one cola and had to excise the rotted part.

My question is, does anyone know when plants typically finish @ 47 degrees N? The variety I'm growing is 'Thumper'.

Here's some pics of the plants and part of the cola I had to snip. Am I pissing away my whole growing season if I harvest now? Very few of the hairs have turned colour and I don't have access to a scope to view the trichs closely.

Anyone?

I'm trying to figure if it's better to harvest now when the plant isn't ready or risk waiting and face bud rot problems.

Does anyone think there'd be much difference in potency between now and when it's fully matured judging by the pictures?

Last week and a half of budding your plants put on about 40-50% of their total weight. Are you having trouble heating your greenhouse? Have you tried and passive thermal retention methods like black jugs filled with water?

Keeping it warm isn't hard. With my space heater on at night, it won't go below about 14C.

The problem is, when it's that warm and the door and window are closed, it gets very humid. The walls drip with condensation.

I'd love to take them inside but they're both the size of small cars :leaf:

I think what I will do is harvest a few of the 'at risk' branches and leave the rest to mature normally. That way I'll have some insurance, if you will. I'd like to at least have some dope for Halloween and Christmas...

Big as cars?Id like to see some wide shots of em!!!:weed:
I'd be embarrassed :p They look like they've been abused. The air is so humid in there that a lot of the leaves have turned yellow and started to die :-(.

There's like 7 or 8 nice colas on each plant though. I don't smoke a lot (yet, haha) so I imagine it will last me until the end of next growing season!

I think my biggest downfall this year was that I didn't top my plants early on. It's my first grow so I'm happy I've even gotten this far :-o

You can pick up a de-humidifier cheap at wall mart and just rig it up to drain outside pretty easy. :peace:

I don't know what the fuck is up with my city, but there's no dehumidifier in the whole town! I've been looking EVERYWHERE for one :p

I just harvested some of the buds that had some rot. I cut out the rotted bits and man... they smell soooo sweet. It's like Juicy Fruit!

Thats crazy! You can always order one online I suppose
Home & Commercial Dehumidifiers, Including Portable Dehumidifiers, by Delonghi, Amcor, Danby, and More
Try asking at a HVAC company too they would probably be a be source one. Good luck bro! :peace:

Where are you located man? I'm near Toronto, and it is WAY too chilly to have plants outside right now. I had to harvest early too :(

Let's just say there's no way for me to head East without getting damp and North Atlanticy :bigjoint:

They're in a greenhouse so they don't get too cold at night. But it's been foggy as fuck and damp for WEEKS. It's an invitation for bud rot and mold. I'm working on a selective harvest currently.

Unfortunately, the trichomes on the buds I'm harvesting don't have much, if any, amber. I'm just hoping I'm not pissing my grow away by harvesting WAY too early. But I don't have much choice: smoke them or let them rot

Where do you live, exactly and what is "Thumper"? Is it Indica or Sativa? In the future, stick to Indica plants. Hardy plants such as White Rhino, Northern Lights, Hindu Kush are best, but to fix your problem, we definitely need more information. You should go to Home Depot and look for a product called Superthrive. It's comprised of vitamins and hormones. This will revitalize and strengthen your plants.

A trip to Home Depot lead me to an idea to grow with what they have to work with. I used Miracle Grow African Violet Potting Soil and Schultz Liquid Cactus Food 2-7-7 for my flowering stage-( it has micro-nutrients as well),. I use eggshell tea toward the end of the veggi cycle. Eggshell Tea is what I call; Ghettto-Guano and it's made by packing a glass, 1 gallon water jug with fresh eggshells and fill it the rest of the way with fresh bottled water and let it rest for a week or 2.. Phew! Stinky-stinky. My plants love this stuff and it also works as a recovery agent when your plant is weak. Could you find out, through analysis, how this compares to guano chemically? I triple the dosage for the cactus food and 2-7-7 is the best I've found so far. I use Home Depot's compact fluorescence lights(65 & 100 watts) and pots. My grows are good and I spend less than $25 for 1 to 4 plants. The buds came out sweet and strong. The first plant was North American Skunk-NAS, and the second was bubble gum. I grow a great skunk-kush that was very strong. Now I have master kush from a clone I bought from a medical marijuana clinic here in LA and the original plant was wonderful with 1.5 ounces in a 2 gallon pot. I took 2 cuttings and they are starting to flower and yes, I took 2 cuttings that have just finished rooting in Home Depot's Peat Disks. I have all your books and dvd's and I love them and thank you. i have pix on Myspace, just look for ogkushte. My URL: myspace.com/ogkushite

If you don't know when the flowering started so you can't count the weeks or you don't know the strain's properties, then keep an eye on your pistols. When at least 80% dry out, it's safe to harvest although I'd wait a week or two.

Next time, mark down the start of the 12 hour light cycle on a calendar and above all, pick plants that have hybrid-vigor for that climate.
