Ok, so i am comin to the conclusion that the Northern Lights fem seeds I purchased have all turned out to be male plants. I have looked at lots of photos, and my plants seem to have balls and no white hairs.

I have 4 veg stage Road Runners that have only been in veg for apx 3 weeks, and the plant look very different from the NL's and already has white hair pistil looking things. So, in the event the NL's are all males, I know I am posed to get them away from the females. But if my brother wants them for the seeds, can he just take the plant for the seeds, or does it have to fertilize a female then take seeds from female? or both? What actually happens to the female plant if the male gets to her?
Thanks!!!!!!

I just read another thread about white hairs means FLOWERING ALREADY?!?!?!?!?! They have been under 18 hours light and 6 hours dark, nonstop, so how would they be flowering? unless I read this incorrectly. hmmmm, still curious about the original questions.

Did you order them online?
Might be an auto flowering strain,
or time for you to switch to 12/12.

What breeder made your femmed seeds?

Male plants release pollen. Pollen is the plant equivalent of sperm. Female plants have the equivalent of the female anatomy, ovaries and the such.

So... Maybe you and your parents have had this talk before. When a boy and a girl have sex the girl can get pregnant and have a baby.

In this case the pollen from the male impregnates the female plant's lady parts and viola, a seed begins to form.

You need both pollen and a female plant to make a seeds. You can separate the two plants and carefully transfer a little pollen from the male plants to the bottom nugs on the female plants. This would provide you with both seeds and some sensimillia.

Hairs only indicate sexual maturity. You could initiate flowering at any time now and see quicker results than you would have flowering prior to the pre-flowers. Most plants will sex themselves as male or female within 7 weeks from seed. Some plants do it as quickly as 4 weeks from seed. All strains will pre-sex eventually though regardless of the light schedule. Nothing to be concerned about.

Ok, so if my brother takes the plant he can get one of his brauds pregnant, then get the seeds from her. gotcha, I didnt know if the male plants "balls" were seeds or not already. Thanks for the helpful info, and no, I am 32 years old with 3 children and I always wondered where the heck they came from. My mom for some reason never explained how that all happened ;-)

So even though the plants are only 3 weeks I can still start flowering now? Could I keep them with the 18/6 for a few more weeks still or would that be bad? And if I start to flower now will I not have as good of an outcome as I would if I waited? They just seem so young and little and innocent I dont want to rush them.

I would think they need to veg a bit longer to build strength in the stalk...You can start flowering after 12" of growth.

Thats what I was thinking too but didnt know if it would be bad for them since they already have those white hairs.

I forgot to tell SNOW the site I got the supposid feminized seeds from, it was cannabisseeds.com and after purchasing I found out I shouldnt have ordered from there. Trial and error, luckly they were cheap, just sucks the money spent on soil and everything else I put into them. But what can ya do besides move on.

This one's very informative as well. Click on "click here to make and get ...." Lots of stuff to learn!

On the first page of sexing section the males are on the left and females on the right (white sketch).

That would still be very soon for autoflowering...I would think?

I was hoping you'd get a kick out of that ;) My Brother and his wife just had his first son on Monday. It's a miracle because he had Leukemia from 4 months old to 4 years old. They used every treatment in the books, multiple radiation treatments, so no one expected his baby batter to be any good. Low and behold... I'm an Uncle now :) Amazing stuff when you really get down to the nitty gritty.

I like to vegetate my plants until they are 10 to 14 nodes tall, then switch to flowering. LST methods and topping can manipulate the time frame a little bit but for the most part you want your plants to be about 1/3 the height you want them to finish at. If you can't grow a plant larger than say, 2 feet tall, then you should probably start flowering before the plant hits 10 inches tall.

It's going to be different for each strain. Some plants barely stretch while others will triple in size. Until you get an idea of how the phenotype will react to flowering play it on the safe side.

The larger the plant the heavier the harvest. The idea is to fill your space well enough with bud sites, but not to the point of crowding. It's kinda an art, takes some time to get an idea of how the plant will grow, but you'll get it eventually.

CONGRATS on bein a new uncle! I have 3 boys myself and I wouldnt trade them for the world, well cept for when they are bad, which is everyday, several times a day, ALL DAY! Ok, so maybe I would trade them lol

I have a nice sized area, about 9 feet high and 7x12ft floor space to work with. So i would definitely much rather let them lil ones go for a few more weeks. Im not too worried bout space. Ill let them cook under the 18/6 for a few more weeks and hope for a good outcome.

Thanks Auntavis for the links. Im on my way to check those out. I have been doing things strictly on my brothers guidance and he has been sooooooo wrong this entire time. So I am looking to others for advice and hopefully learn much more in the process.

Im sure I will have plenty more questions to come

No prob...It's my first grow too (about 5 1/2 wks into flowering) and I learned a ton from those two links. Here's one more:
