I used to just throw an air pump in the water to aerate it for awhile before watering that way the water already has oxygen in it. It's good to let the soil dry out also cuz the roots will grow faster seeking water and it prevents problems such as mold and fungus gnats. Best thing to do is when you are about to plant fill container with dry dirt lift it so you know roughly what it weighs dry. Then after watering wait till it's nearly that dry then water again . Adding perlite helps alot , I'd say 30% perlite I've even seen great results with 50% perlite , you just have to keep an eye on it more often and not let it dry out too much. The plants grow alot faster with the added oxygen go the roots from having a good soil structure from the perlite IMHO

if you tell us pot size and how much water youve been giving them,it will make it easier to help you.

but just water when soil has dried out.some ppl wait for their plants to start to wilt a little first.thats what i do anyway.plus i can tell by the weight of my pots, when its time to water.i water 1-2 times a week at most, depending on what stage of growth my plants are at.
