I think I transplanted wrong

I was transplanting a 2 week old vegging plant, as it was showing signs of needing a bigger pot. I tipped the cup upside down into my hand, then started pulling soil off of the roots (as I thought this was the right thing to do) eventually i had pulled off almost all of the soil, and then basically popped it in the bigger pot, watered it, and put it back under the light.

Now 6 hours later the leaves and kinda turning yellow, curling and are very droopy. I am thinking that I killed the plant? should i throw it away or just leave it under the light?
And if someone could give me tips on how to transplant the proper way, that would be GREAT!

Hi, i re potted mine using my hands, I just putting my hands bout four inches either side of stem dug down to the full length of my hands then took them out and placed them directly in the middle of new soil and gently pressed down round the stem with the palm of my hands and gave them a sprinkle of water but i didnt put them under lights i put them outside for the day hope this helps. :bigjoint:

what? you picked almost all the soil off your roots? I hope i am mis understanding that, but you are not suppose to take all the soil off the root ball, if anything just brake up the middle of it where no roots usually have grown. But if you really did pick all the soil off i bet you put your plant into shock. Leave it under light and a little water and patience.

Give it some time...its a bit stressed probably and it will take a couple of days to come around..water once ...no nutes and wait... luck..

* for future reference.. transplant when dry and just lift whole root ball & plant....
no picking or cutting...

apart from the old pot itself EVERYTHING else goes into the new one - roots+soil together

i had to rinse bad soil out of the roots on 4 clones that i was given. they were so overwatered that the ph was fecked, and the soil was like mud. those plants took weeks to recover.
they grew up happy though. very bushy. their clones never got quite as bushy as they did.
i'm confident your plant is experiencing a moderate case of shock. you can't really see all the damage you did, but small roots and root hairs get severely damaged from this kind of treatment. just give it time, and DONT OVERWATER IT! good luck

Give it time it will probably be ok depending of how many of the roots you tore off on accident. When I transplant i put a few inches of soil down in the new pot then tip the old pot over and gently squeeze the pot until the whole soil ball comes out as one piece. then i place that on the fresh dirt and then back fill the rest of the pot until it is completely filled with dirt thing give it a real good drink.

Thanks for all of the responses.
Today I woke up and the plant has shriveled up and the leaves were all dry.
I figured it was dead so i buried it lol RIP.
Next time i will do it the right way

Yes, do not remove the soil from the rootball. You can if it's rootbound, but even then, no more than 1/3 of the rootball should be broken loose.
