Canadian Marijuana Growing Operation Guarded By Bears

​Looks like Smokey has a kushy new gig. Police in southeastern British Columbia, Canada have raided a marijuana grow operation that was reportedly guarded by black bears.

Officers raiding the operation two weeks ago at Christina Lake, B.C., about 160 miles east of Vancouver, found two residential buildings and a fenced-off growing operation. Police said Tuesday they found about 1,000 cannabis plants, reports CBC News.


They also found about 10 bears that the homeowner appeared to be using to discourage people from stealing any pot plants, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Fred Mansveld.


​ "[Officers] soon noticed the bears were docile and tame," Mansveld said. "One of them jumped on our unmarked car for awhile. But it soon became apparent they were habituated to the grow operation." I'll bet they were!

The woman accused of growing the marijuana had been feeding the bears for years, one neighbor said.

Police are recommending that the woman face marijuana cultivation charges.

Conservation officers now have to decide what to do about the bears. Police are considering destroying the poor animals "because they have become too used to human food and contact," police said.

lol i would really be willing to take those bears. :( anything so they dont have to die. i also know some people who have sanctuaries and some who privately own bears in the states.

bears sounds like a great idea. Im going to look into trying to find bear cubs to raise. Im supprised i did not think of this before. I will be researching the breeding patters of bears so that i can get a cub at a good time. I feel that i am going to have to research when female bears are prominent to being in heat and then research black bear birthing schedule. I plan on having a minium of 2 black bears for my 4 x 11 grow area. I plan on feeding them a high protein diet and maintaining a healthy relationship with them. Im quite excited for this to work out.

you know there are people out there who sell animals that are considered wild but have been in captivity for generations. Its alot safer. they would have all their shots, you would get a certificate saying that its not wild, so then you can get a license or permit for them (depending on where you live is a big factor on keeping a bear LEGALLY) You would know that the cub has had human interaction as well as their parents. (ever try to pick up a stray cat that has never had human interaction and you try to pick up one of their kittens... let me tell you, your not going to come out of that fight without a scratch)

lol by the way i just read the petition and signed it....
they want the bears to be in a human free enviroment. thats not going to help the bears they will die slowly of starvation :( but it better then dying by a gun or injection....
