I WANT seeds from my plants...so what is the best route to take?

So I've been reading a bit about trimming and it seems that there are two different opinions about trimming while in flower. As I said before, I let this one run its course because I wasn't sure how big it would get. Now I'm looking at it, and it looks like a couple of the bottom branches could go, and there are a few bud sites that are blocked. What are your opinions folks?

I say don't trim. I haven't seen recent full shot pics of your plant, but regardless, if it's not causing issues I would leave it. At most, I will snip off tiny little buds at the bottom that are no bigger than the width of a cigarette butt, but even then that is me just being bored.

As much as I see this discussed, I have yet to see a side by side clone grow where this is put to the test.

Don't trim. Simply move any leafs/leaves to one side, use some garden wire if needed.
That being said, I still get rid of the little budlets, but not any foliage...

So what is the purpose of getting rid of the little budlets? I was thinking I could use the paint-brush technique to pollinate the small budlets at the bottom in order to keep the top few bud sights seedless on my plants. Also, I'm still not sure what the bud sights should look like to determine when to brush the pollen on. Here are some pics with the bud sights circled that I'm thinking about pollinating on the two plants.

And here are some other pics I took just now so you can see where they're at. I put a film cannister in the middle of the two plants so you can get an idea on height. The others are the bud sights on my slightly larger and seemingly faster maturing plant.

And for comparison, here are pics of the other plant to show the difference in the bud sights.

I snip the budlets to give more energy to the rest of the plant.
But just to shoot myself in the foot (bam!), what you're doing with them for seeds is exactly what I intended to do this grow, so I guess I'm a hypocrite...an honest one though....even a stoned honest one! ;)
(And a fickle-stoned-honest-hypocrite at times! ;))

I forgot what happened with your grow...I think you mentioned it before though but I'm on my phone and cant go through 7 pages to find it. I wish I had any clue when these would be ready to harvest because then I would know when to pollinate. Next time I will just keep one plant purely for pollination if these plants end up being as good as I remember and look into the feminized seed tidbit. But for now...I dont want to lose a huge amount of bud so I just wanna pollinate a couple of spots.

You can pollinate now if you want. Your seeds won't really go over-ripe if you have to wait on the bud. The seeds will take around 4-5 weeks to be done. One concern on pollinating the lowest buds is the seeded buds need to be in a spot that gets decent light and what not for the buds and seeds to mature. I would just pick one decent side branch and pollinate the shit out of a few buds on it. If you were to just pollinate the shit out of one top bud on a side branch, chances are you will get 20-40 seeds from just that.

If you save a plant for pollinating the entire thing, you will get more seeds than you possibly know what to do with. Just look at Jpeggs seed run.

Unless you have something crazy up your sleeve, it would be a bit overkill. but you can also use that one plant to pollinate each branch with a different male and have several different crosses from one mother.

Hmm...thats not a bad idea either, as I have the pollen now from two very different male plants.

Question about the light needed if I were to pollinate the bottom of the plant: I do have two CFLs mounted low on the wall providing light to the plants from the side (as seen in the second pic from the middle row in the pics I posted today). I did this mostly because there was no more room up top right now, and also wanted to try to help the yield from the lower buds as best as possible since I didn't know how to LST or top the plant when starting this project. Think this will also be enough to provide light to the pollinated branches? I turn the plants 45-90 degrees each day.

And the bottom branches were pollinated...seeds are developing.

In you guys' opinion, approx how far out am I from harvest? I know you can only tell based on certain things but...think they'll be ready before christmas?

First plant was chopped a week ago, second plant gets the axe tomorrow. I ended up with about 1.25oz dry from this plant and about 16 seeds from the branches I pollinated myself. I must have stressed the plant because it took forever for the trichs to start changing and this particular plant hermied in the late stages. All in all though, I'm thrilled with my first complete grow. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test it...looking for a better job, but my girlfriend says its fantastic! Now I have to learn what to do with all these trimmings!

Chopped the second plant and got close to 1.5oz. This one was much more dense and according to my gf, "smokes soooo much better." The consensus is that the first plant definitely has more of a lazy high whereas the second plant seems to be a really fun and energetic high. This works out for us, as we like different highs for different things. Unfortunately I haven't even been able to try my own work because I'm trying to land a better job right now. Plan to vac seal an eighth of each so I can try it in the future...but it really sucks watching her, her mom, and my brother smoke my shit! The compliments are plenty though so that helps the feel-good factor.

After thoroughly digging through the pollinated branches on the two very different females, I yielded around 20-30 seeds each branch! Pretty good considering I only pollinated one lower branch with each male (had one tall, one short male, hopefully different strains). I marked and stored the seeds accordingly so now I'll have an idea of which seeds will grow which plant, narrowing down the mystery for future grows. My hope is that I had one male and female of each strain so I can get two hybrids as well as the originals.

An easy method is ISO hash. Go to your local pharmacy and get isopropyl alcohol. It hasto be 91% or 99%. Pot leaves in a clean jar and just enough ISO to cover the leaves. Shake vigorously for about 30 second. After that, use a strainer, preferably metal like one used for powdered sugar. Put everything thru the strainer into a glass bowl. Put outside for a day or two and then scrape the bowl. You have homemade hash.
