Not only that, but people die. Guns do not, they get "handed down". I am aware of at least one (undiagnosed and untreated - has not been to a doctor since he was 20) full-blown schizophrenic with demonstrated violent tendencies with access to a cache of .223 weapons, large magazines and a thousand rounds or more of ammunition. No law against it. It terrifies me. If I am ever interviewed after some terrible event occurs I will say, "yeah, I predicted this would happen"
I never gave it a thought until my elderly WW2 vet, hunter, gun owning neighbor slipped into dementia. I'm familiar with the disease from family members but never needed to worry about a gun with them. My elderly neighbor would walk about his yard (no fence between us at the time) while packing. He was a nice old man and we were on good terms but I realized there and then that I wasn't safe around him. I put up a fence to avoid any chance of surprising him while walking about my yard. I put his family on notice that as long as he had a gun on premises, I wouldn't be able to help them by checking in on him. Its a real problem that is growing.

Here is what the NRA says about it:
In response to a reporter’s inquiry, the National Rifle Association forwarded a statement regarding gun ownership and the frail elderly: “Our NRA basic courses focus on educating all gun owners regardless of age. They also teach gun owners the importance of storing guns so they are never accessible to untrained or unauthorized individuals.”

Completely tone deaf to this issue.

Right after you restrict world militaries to the same technology. Good luck.
I'm just warning you that the tides are against you. Either gun owners take responsibility for reducing the chances of these mass murders and reducing accidental gun death and injuries or the non gun owning majority will do so. I guarantee you won't be satisfied with what non gun owners will do. Take responsibility now or lose all chance of affecting the outcome later.

These fuck-nuts have more reasons why it won't work than you can count. Pretty amazing as most of the civilized world is living under better rules and they are working pretty well. We are the outlier here but we are also probably more stupid than average. We encourage that very well.

I've seen the same helpless "nothing can be done" attitude played out in other discussions recently. Such as, yes cops kill black people but nothing can be done about it. Or, "lets stop talking about race issues because it riles up the racists". Now we have: Second Amendment means we simply have to tolerate high rates of gun related deaths, nothing to be done about it.

Conservative didn't used to mean stupid. It used to mean people resisted change because they didn't want to take risks associated with the unknown. Now it means we can't change and must accept risks.

Is that what the constitution is called?
No, the Constitution is a called a "living document" because it was intended to be kept up to date with the times through amendments and judicial interpretation of its meaning and intent. Any moron who thinks words have a definitive meaning is missing the point entirely. The Constituion exists for us, not the other way around. It is not what some people consider the bible to be - the literal word of god. It is people like you who make its destruction inevitable. Thankfully there are not so many of you that we will not be able to move on without you, leaving you in your little cave grumbling about taxes equal theft.

No, conservative didn't used to mean stupid. But it does now.

Look this case from this angle:

If it wasnt so easy to get guns in usa maybe this fool didnt had guns to do this mess. Look in camada you just cant get guns easily and if u can get one u cant get crazy shit like uzi or ak47...

You really think its normal usa citizen can get fuckin any guns from smith n wesson to kalashnikov..... Who the fuck need a submachine gun??? Guns law in usa is totally dumb as fuck. Look how often ppl take these guns and commit murders vs self defense using... Cmon
Maybe try to learn English better.

Nothing you said makes any sense. Ar's and ak's are not sub machine guns.

They are not "assault" weapons either. All weapons assault.

They are nothing more than a hunting rifle variant. Matter of fact most hunting rifles pack more of a punch than ar's.

An ar15 is one of the smallest centerfire rifle cartridge made.

Every gun made besides a single shot and bolt action is semi automatic.

This guy could just as easy rented a huge uhaul and ran a bunch of people over.

Pistols kill way more people than rifles. Lots of things kill people. How may die from Tylenol and other medicines?

You will never stop killing. Humans have been killing each other since the beginning.

That said I think some discussion needs to be had. I'm open to sensible gun laws.

We need to get to the root of the problem.

How many people are intentionally run down by u-hauls every year? Are counties with stronger gun laws plagued with thousands of U-haul deaths annually?

Don't know.

Don't think I'm trying to lessen this tragedy. I'm saying that people kill. They always have and always will.

Ill never support an outright ban on guns. I'm open to discussion and sensible gun laws.

I also agree that gun owners need to be more responsible. Keeping guns locked up etc.

It's about not letting guns into the wrong hands, and like many problems we face, the solution/policy isn't a simple one.

The answer is "no". People could use piano wire and a could of cut-off pieces of broomstick to kill. It is conceivable that they could kill dozens per day this way. But they don't.

Now that I think of it, those guns are all the same the same way that flaming pie is the same as Lahada. I mean, they both have vaginas and breasts, right? But to say that they have the same physcological impact on a person is naive.

The gun manufacturers know what they are doin. To you they might just be a tool, but to many, many others they are not.

Too bad we can't study this. The NRA won't let us - with the help of their pet party, the Republicans, of course
