I moved my clones from cup to one gallon smart pot to five gallon smart pot to........

what is the size pot you eventually wind up in? What kind of yield will a 15 gallon smart pot produce?45 gallon?

My partner wants to use 45 gallon pots but I think 15 will be more than enough, please advise.

*the clones were raised indoors and moved outdoors after reaching 18 inches.Half of our plants are sativas and half are indicas.OUTDOOR GROW.

thanks

Depends on the strain you are growing, the lights, the nutes you use and how long you veg the plants.

15 gallons are for big Sativas and plants vegged longer than 2 months....
bigger than that is not nessesary unless you are growing outdoors....

My SIL vegges unter T5 lights, using Promix and organic nutes- clones vegged 1 month in a 3 gallon planter then into their final 10-15 gallon smart-pot for the next 2 months.....
She flowers them under 1000w HPS (2 plants per light MAX) and gets 14-20 oz per plant.

Draig and I use the same soil & nutes and similar strains... but only veg just under 2 months and only use 2 600w lights for 8 plants... and we get 9on average) 5oz per plant...
everything you use/do effects the outcome!

(*note- we're going back to hydro for 1/2 our grow- faster bigger yields... but not 100% organic)

HI LadyZ,thanks for replying. We are growing outdoors and are hoping for 1/2 lb minimum dry yield per indica plant. Some of our sativas have potential to really produce but we aren't looking for max yield, only max quality.

Why in planters not the ground hun? So you can move them maybe? If not-- just put them in the ground-- or go with at least a 25 gallon-- remember- they will keep vegging until late July early August--and keep growing after they bloom, and harvest won't be until October...... they need LOTS of room for the roots!! What soil you using!?

This is the outdoor forum after all . I would go with 30 - 45 . A 15 gallon will be root bound before flowering starts. It will take more food and twice daily waterings in extreme heat and when root bound. :eyesmoke:

We must grow in planters, just the nature of our property.I hope we never have to move them, but the ability to do so is welcome. We are using coco for soil.My partner is the master and I the grasshopper. However, I just feel the 45 gallon smart pots are toooooo large and I do understand about the roots needing lots of room. thanks again,Lady Z.Thanks,TWS.

OK ,live and learn I suppose. coco will take much more water but since coco needs to be feed each watering with good run off pot size is not as crucial. Defintley bigger is better.

I think that a 45 gallon is about the smallest i would go for outdoor, but its all up to the grower. just remember that the bigger the smartpots, the bigger the root system, the bigger potential for a monster plant! this year im running some 100 gallon and 45 gallon smartpots. and i have seen much bigger being used.

I use 30 gallon smartpots for anything above ground.
What he said!!! And yes- as TWS said- you have to feed nearly every watering with coco- as it is basically a "passive hydroponics' system.... let the top dry out and the planter get a little light between feeds- and remember to go lighter with the nutrients than you would in soil! ;)

depends how often you can visit the plants and also how much soil you can get. You could get 1/2 lb with 5 gallon container under good conditions. go larger if you can't visit very often and can afford to bring the soil in.
