If i'm running lights 24hrs, will it hurt to switch to 18/6?

Aside from saving money on electricity does it have any other benefits?

Also my friends plants have been under a lamp that is running 24 hrs, will it shock the plants or slow down growth dramatically?

Thanks for helpful replies!

This is not a problem in veg. 18/6 will continue the veg cycle. There are some benefits to having a dark rest period although it is not necessary for vegetative growth.

everyone that said it won't hurt them is right they will be fine. i thought i should add that giving your plants a dark cycle will allow them time to rest. It has been proven that plants do better with a rest period. To grow great herb indoors you need to mimic a natural environment. 24 hour lighting your plants will work just fine. I find that my plants do better on 18 6. I do have my clones under 24 though like canibud

It is said that positive things happen to the plant during the dark periods but im not 100% sure what it is but changing your lights to 18/6 is fine and will not affect your plants at all.

basically for veg your options are anywhere between 15on 9off to 24on 0off. strains will all act differently according to the light cycle but most begin flowering around 14/15 hours on. for flower you want to stick with 10 on 14 off to 13 on 11 off any time you go out of these ranges your risking your plant to reveg, herm out etc...

with that said, its most common to stick with either, veg:18/6, 20/4, 24/0. flower:12/12.

no these are your options im saying. go ahead and choose one for veg, then set the timer and start reading a whole bunch. start in the beginner section. wait a month or two and go to 12/12

Now in that order or what cause Idk what order veg flower
18 hrs on 6 off will grow plant... once the plant is 1/3 the height you want when done, 12 hrs on 12 hrs off will grow bud... wait and cut.
and ya read everything you can find, its easier to learn now than fix later
