Hello fellow smokers.

Im 5wks into my 1st grow, and Im curious to find the sex on my 'girls'.

Being new, its hard to tell whats what. I mean, I know the obvious .....Boys = balls. Girls = 2 hairs. I just cant tell on my plants.

I used a Nikon D40x. I hope you can see things, as I dont have a close up lens. Anyways.

Here they are:

your plants are still vegging... you won't see flowers until after the light schedule is changed to 12/12 or until the plants are "mature", and that is when they will show preflowers right at the nodes. You can tell by looking at the new growth. It is all symentrical, so your plant is not mature enough to preflower, and still in its vegetative stage.

Fuck guys. Thats not what I wanted to hear!

I thought by the 4/5th week you could start seeing signs. LOL Oh well, thats why Im still a nub.

I didnt take pics of all the plants (pics are of plants 1-3) the forth is still a shorty.
The first 2 are approx 8-10 tall but Im LSTin them so they look like a lil bush.

Well then.

I guess I should change over to 12/12 then huh?

How old/tall is a mature plant?

4-6 weeks sometimes as long as 8 weeks, that when they show preflowers... you can go into 12/12 whenever you want though... and it will force them to show sex and start flowering.

They're still too young to tell. My first grow it took about 2 months, and even then, I needed a loupe (at least 10x) to see the calyxes and pistils. That's why I start twice as many plants as I want to raise, even tho my seeds are "feminized". I've got 20 germinating, and will end up with 10 nice healthy females.
This will be my second grow. I think that I may have forced them to flower too early with the first grow, and that might have affected my yield. I have heard from several sources that if you start from seed, one needs to let them veg to maturity before flowering. Those who grow clones already have sexually mature plants.
Let 'em fully mature unless you're on a time schedule.

LOL

I started with 8. Being new to growing, I seemed to kill the other 4. A plant murderer, so to speak.

Everything I've read about when a plant is mature enough to flower said that the main indication is when the plant starts producing "Alternating Internodes". That's when it stops making two leaves at every new growth point, and starts making just one leaf instead. That's not to say you can't flower b4 then, but it just means that your plant will produce better fruit if you wait for that to occur. Oh yeah, your plant is NOT showing any signs of sex that I can see yet. Best of luck!

LOL!!! We both commited "floracide". I started my first grow with 10, and ended up harvesting 1. Between burning the shit out of 'em with nutes, overwatering, my dog "marking" them, and a host of other mistakes, I think I'm lucky to have gotten what I did at the end. But it was well worth the effort!!!

uhmmmm out of the 60-70 I have had this year, I have lost three (not including seedlings that just died for no reason right after they popped out of the soil).
