have you flowered with the xgs. They have only been around since Dec. A little over 2 months . Been out of stock twice.. For a month.. So I doubt anyone has finished flowering with the xgs..
I was one of the first to receive the XGS last year. Been using the light since clones were rooted, and I vegged them for 3 weeks before flip. Slower than normal bud development at 3 weeks of 12/12. Clones from same mother as previous grow, and all other conditions same aside from the light.

Now I'm not swearing that my test of N=1 is pure science, but when I added the T5s I got immediate, explosive growth and bud development. Different strains react to different lights differently, so it could just be that Bubba Kush LOVES T5...

when I did par t5 the indica doms did better than the sativa doms.. Then again maybe the plants need to get used to the all white .. The same thing goes with the induction. After 2 or 3 batches the plants are more used to that spectrum and perform better .

Guess I'll leave that to others to discover. Selling my XGS as soon as the new DIY COB panel is completed in the next few days.

SO if anyone wants to get their hands on one, feel free to PM me.

I may still buy xgs at least for veg. I'm building a veg room for the plants on the led side of the flower room.. That won't be for 2 months though.

Won't be a big difference as their pretty close in lm per watt and spectra? Or no?

I need to see how multi pass grow goes to confirm your worry..........not enough red was my concern as well

The 3000K chips dip a significant amount further into the good part of the red spectrum. I don't expect it to be a tremendous improvement, but SupraSPL's findings are fairly reassuring.

Don't get me wrong, the XGS is one hell of a light. It's just no contest when comparing 99% of pre-mades to DIY builds.

There's also something to be said about the warm fuzzy feeling you get down in your nut sack when you turn on your own custom-built light for the first time...

Okay, this explains a lot.
Gaius, how long have you been growing for?
Because, I'm being dead serious here, who puts a near pure indica into 12/12 from clone?
Of course it's not going to produce squat in that situation.
Plants like Bubba Kush, Purple Urkle, and other notoriously slow vegging indicas will not produce well unless they have a good solid root structure.
So it wasn't the addition of the T5 light that made your Bubba's take off, it was the fact that they finally had a root structure to work off of at week 3 or 4.
That's a rookie mistake, so that's why I asked how long you have been growing for.

Also, would you have any pics from your XGS grow at all?

No rookie here. Been growing for over 20 years. The Bubba was flipped to 12/12 after 3 solid weeks of veg and a fully developed canopy. 3 weeks of flower under the XGS resulted in slower than normal bud development with a strain I've been growing for 6 years. The bubbas do love T5 to be fair.

edit: I should add also that my clones are always fully developed teens.

Okay, I misread/confused the 3 weeks of veg and the addition of the T5's at 3 weeks, my bad.
You are the first, and only one so far, to report any problems flowering with the XGS.
What were the temps in your grow area like before you added the T5's?
Any chance you have some pics of your set-up that you could share?

Good 411.

I am running 2 ufos that Jeff gifted me. Used them to veg clones. Once buds set, I added ~ 54w of 3000K x 4ft led tubes: so an all WHITE grow

Nuggz are rock hard. Bit of an issue from when I OD them on Sea Crop minerals ~ 4 weeks ago- burnt all the primary leafs to a crisp, but they bounced back quite nicely

I am ordering 2 of these to supplement next go round $77 for ~ 75w + free shipping. DAMN

My temps are low 70s lights-off and high 70s during lights-on.. Bubba usually needs a 10 degree swing to bring out the purple, so I shoot for these numbers.

I was focused on panel design during the last few weeks so I have few photos of the current grow. What I do have though is a photo of what the Bubbas looked like under the XGS a couple days after adding the T5's (About ~3 weeks into 12/12):

And here's what they usually look like after T5 veg and 3 weeks of HPS:

It's hard to match what T5 can do for vegging.

Once again, this isn't scientific. I don't have dates. I don't have a detailed journal. I'm not trying to prove anything. Just reporting some basic personal observations and saying the SGS is likely stronger for flowering with increased red-spectrum output.

So Pet Flora, you are firmly in the trimming of fan leaves camp during flowering?

Hey guys happying growing! If any of you are truly interested in a quality led but for less than 500-600 after discount, I bought one too many Area 51 SGS 160's, (4 total) and it turns out i only really need two of them for my space, one is gone, so one remains. Contact me through RIU private message if interested.

Yes and no. These had to be trimmed due to pilot error. Normally. I trim everything below 2nd node, BUT, my method is extreme hydro. I feed every 45 minutes during lights on, so primary leafs normal function of supporting buds has been down graded

Okay so should I get the A51 SGS-160 now or wait a week and a half until the XGS-190 is back in stock? I think I like the idea of more red instead of all white. Thanks!

Well, it's kinda tough to say what's going on with those photos.
A birds eye view for the A51, and standard profile shots for the T5, make it tough to compare between the two.

Yes, the SGS is better for flowering (direct lenses, more red spectrum) and will yield a little more.
It's still weird that you had this issue.
What was the wattage of the T5 fixture that you added?

I'll be finding out for myself in the next couple of weeks when I light up a 3x3 with my XGS.
Now if I can only make up my mind about which plants I'm running.

Ordered the XGS originally but switched to the SGS since the XGS was sold out until the the end of the month and the SGS ships immediately. I like the idea of the red spectrum over all white anyway. Gonna throw it in a 36" x 20". I have a 4 bulb HOT5 with 2700K bulbs in but that would need to be much closer than the SGS right? So wouldn't the T5 block the light from the SGS? What would be the best way to set it up?

sidelight maybe?

sidelight maybe?
Thanks! I tried that but with only 20" of space and the T5 fixture taking up about 3", the light is just too close and burning the leaves. Now I'm running a SCROG with everything pruned beneath the screen so gotta figure out how to light the screen up along with the SGS. Will the T5 light be efficient if I hang it next to the SGS, about a foot away from the canopy? Just the T5 and SGS side by side? I know T5 loses light so the plants have to be prety close... Is 12" too far? And is 12" too close to run the SGS?

LED grow lights is a fast moving target. Just as soon as you think you have it pinned down along comes newer tech

A few of us see COBs as the way forward. Parabolic reflectors come in 90-110*s eliminating the often less than desirable individual diode lenses found on more conventional panels

Below is a source of inexpensive cob/reflector lights/panels

Most likely their cob choices are not premo, but they should get the job done nicely, and changing cobs out for better ones should be fairly easy, even for me

For peeps on a budget, you can start small and add more lights as you can afford them

Anyway, multiple small panels provides the grower with the ability to angle them for deeper penetration under the canopy of primary leafs

Now, I do not subscribe to multi-color diodes, or chips, but the price was too good not to add a couple for a bit more umph to my 2 @ 3500/5000 ufo 90s during flower

and these for vegging and/or larger tents
