Looks like Captain Morgan is adding red light to his XGS as well.
Please don't drag me into your argument. I was convinced just by looking at the XGS specs that it would be good a flowering light. I'm just into quality and go the extra yard to add supplemental lights to get it,like UVB,730 nm and 660 nm. Seems all the quality mass produced panels don't cover all the bases, probable to keep costs down.Even the SGS which seems to be a proven flower panel uses 630 nm reds, most lights fall off after 630 nm.I think the XGS's spectrum should do a great job but I like to add all the extra bells and whistles to get that extra quality and quantity. I like to DIY but with LED's I've chosen to put together off the shelf units to get what I want,I get the spectrum I want and also have a warranty to fall back on.

Are you suggesting we're a bunch of A51 shills?

I can assure you that if A51 panels did not perform well, these guys would say so and A51 would take that to heart

I just grew 2 clones under 2 GIFTED ufo90s (3500/5000K ) from jeff that were not going into production

probably because I have long been an advocate for white diodes

Clones vegged wonderfully (pic below), but to max result after buds set, I supplemented with 3 x 4ft 2 @ 3000K @ 16w led tubes- zero deep red

Got a fine result that would have been a lot better had I not miscalculated, mixing Sea Crop minerals way too hot into fresh nutes ~ 4 weeks prior to harvest.

Way too much and burnt all primary leafs to a crisp

UfOs + led tube total of 3 tubes

4 days prior to ODing

LED 2 of 2.jpgIMG_2055.jpg

5 days later 1/25 from here the leafs quickly dried up, so I plucked them

Mottled LED Leafs.jpg

Still, here's the trimmed result ~ 125gms wet

hmmmm, the led affiliate program....im starting to see whats going on here.

Hey that's a good tactic and I wouldn't dispute it. But we can both be realistic here and say the XGS benefits from supplemental red light. Plain and simple. Sorry to bring you into it, but your method was relevant.

Im sure you can flower a 3x3 canopy with the XGS, but the likelihood of you getting better results than an equivalent HPS or Red/White is slim.

No worries midget. I never claimed it was fair. Look back at my posts all saying exactly that. I only said that I didn't think it was enough by itself to get a solid flowering run out of a 3x3.

Until I see someone take a 3x3 + solo XGS and get a good yield, then I can't recommend it as good buy for flowering based on my experience with it.

The better option for a 3x3 would be 2 SGSs, which runs about a grand. If you can solder, you can easily build your own 480watt COB panel for about $700 and a couple nights of your time. Every part easily replaceable, upgradeable, and totally customizable.
yeah mate I would think it needs two as well...

the jury is still out for me whether more red light is needed.. Im leaning more to it being needed than not.. In a message I got from a51 they said the the XGS was more an allrounder.... I appreciate their honesty but will wait to see what their new light brings..

How much was your total build on the DIY project...Soldering isnt a problem but the multiple drivers thing is...

Think what you want but I've done a all white Cree grow with no red supplement. I think it was about 180 watts at most, started with less and added side lighting as the plant developed in flower and there is no way a 250 HPS would touch the quantity and quality I got. I have two friends that grew the same cut under 1000 HPS's and they both told me the quality of mine was better and my plant yielded better than one of theirs under the 1000. The SGS's whites have more blue so you can veg with less power then add the reds for flower.I think the XGS uses a different strategy,a single more full spectrum with different power levels.

Not to interupt this fine debate but you may have overlooked something, one of the gentleman talking shit to you previously stated to you in the other thread that the top of the line Apache600 is the only light that can replace a 1000 watt HPS and asked you to show him a diy led that can pull 1.5-2lbs in a 4x4, by that statement he is saying a 1000 hps will pull 1.5-2 pounds, he just harvested 500 grams from his Apache600. 500 grams from a $2000 plus light is not a good deal. They've already stated they get price breaks by endorsing them on here, I for one dig the diy led's you guys are doing. Watch out for the bandwagon as the sheep always stick together. Thanks for speeking the truth and I wish you all the best getting the sheep sheared, but you cant polish a turd and theres a lot of bullshit being trown ur way for trying to save people money. Best of luck, im leaving before the police report me again.

LED equals to lots of bud and high lumens output per watt and if you are on a low budget then LED's can sometimes be a problem but if you think about it, it only costs £80 ($100)for a UFO LED. Not too expensive.

In the end you will have the bud and that is what matters not what you pay for the lighting, quality and yield matter not the price you pay for the start up things.

oh look youve crawled back out from under your rock and your name wasnt even mentioned.

a pound for a 600W light I would say isnt bad .. what sort of numbers are you getting for your HPS grows?

4 plants roughly 3.5-5 ozs each per $200 600 watt hid, nuttin special, bout average I guess. But im not here to talk about hid. Im not here to talk to anybody really, just tryin to point something out to someone who isnt you. Carry on

youre getting up to 20 ounces per four plants under 600W HPS... really?... have you got this documented anywhere?

This plant is very tough and adaptable and you can grow a nice plant without deep reds and a less than favorable spectrum. Whether or not you want to spend the extra money to give the plant a optimum spectrum to get the most out of it is up to you. It may not be the most efficient way to spend your money but for me quality is my priority and a happy plant gives better quality and quantity.

  • Hi all.
Going through many different websites about LED Grow Lamps can't find any reviews of UK based LED Lights like:
    -Grow Northern
    -LED grow lights
    -PRAKASA
    -Grow LED Lights
    -Monster Bud LED
    etc.

Some good LED Lamps in US but very expensive to get them to UK (extra VAT to pay) and don't know if it's safe (UK Border Agency).
Ask all of you for help to start good

Want to buy Secret Jardin DR90 or DR100. How many plants can grow in this size tents and how strong LED lamp do I need.

do the white lights contain any of the needed red spectrums in sufficient quantities?

what benefit do you see adding more gives? bigger bud, more potency etc?

Not what I said, I said 3.5-5ozs,I grow 4 different plants from seed in a tent at a time usually, if you grew you would know that means 4 different yields per plant, got 5.5 ozs off a sage n sour last run but that was a fluke. But the vert guys get over 20oz per 600, but not me, not a vert guy yet. A pound is a good run, 14 ozs on a bad run. But im not here to talk about hid so carry on, I was givin a led guy a compliment, I dig the diy led's, functional, upgradeable , and cheaper, good shit.

This quote is almost 2 years old. Since then Cree NW have gotten even better

My own results confirm this, at least with Sat/Sat Dom strains

As one can see, the CREE Neutral White (I call it 'Goldilocks', because it's almost 'just right' ) has a RSPD that still allows nearly ~25% of its total power in the blue range (and plants only really 'need' ~8-10%), and more that 1/3 of which (i.e. the area under the curve) is over ~580nm or so (which has a Photosynthetic RS of over 90%!) - which is much better than even your typical 'Enhanced HPS'.

Several people on these forums have claimed the XGS replaces a 400w HPS (some even said 600w). I'm sorry, but that's insanity. While I'll agree the XGS may outperform an HPS watt for watt, let's not distort the many comparisons of area 51 fans here to suit your argument.

Is this not your first flower run with an XGS anyhow? If you are adding red, it just backs up my statements about it needing some more of it. Hell even area 51 backs me up. "All arounder" maybe be more accurate than"vegger" though I'll admit.

I asked you on average what you got... so its 5OZ per 600w.... no wonder you dont record you grow diaries...
