you could do worse than apollo oem..i grew a viet under one..in retrospect i shoulda gone for 3590

We are Canadian my brother and i are doing an led bar/panel test i had custom made.
He is aquaponic and yes salad greens....
we have 3@ 4 x 10 beds..aquaponic

Yes it is good idea to ground the heatsink specially if it is exposed, not anodized and you have a few live wires/driver on it. Ground to outlet ground just like the driver's ground if your driver has one.

Vero 10, Vero 13 and smaller Cree Cobs would be cost effective compared to LED strips.
Tried some strips. They are always more expensive than cobs. under digikey you can look for 'Linear Light Strip' under section 'LED Lighting - COBs, Engines, Modules'
58.5 meters is a lot of work

Tried Samsung SI-B8T341560WW 135 lm/W but it is end of life. New series seems like SI-B8T342560WW

thanks, i am new to diy leds. the way i figured it 3590s would be running at 39.6w, its all still mostly greek to me, i am hoping to have 9-10 cxb3590s in a 20"x3' area, right now i pull about 280 at the wall with panels and get a gram a watt but ive read with these cobs i could achieve 2 grams a watt

Thanks for the suggestions, I took look at the Vero 10's (5k spectrum) and they're what I'm looking for. The 13, 18s seems to powerful for my application considering my height restriction (14"). I'm thinking something like this https://www.rollitup.org/t/vero-10-5000k-veg-light-diy-step-by-step-build.861762/ .

I'm confused as to what the differences are between the various vero 10s. The most cost effective the better.

Would 4 of the Veros cover a 18" x 48" area. Also, is there an upper limit to the amount of these COBS I could have in parallel/series?

Hello everybody,

I never believed in LED's and was a high believer of HPS/MH lamps. But reading in the LED's section convienced me more and more and my whole
HPS/MH system now went into retirement as I want to build my LED system now. But having no clue about LED's other then what I read here (and honestly,
when you guys start talking LED nerdissm, I'm lost) I want to ask your LED gurus which way I should go (area is 5x5) :

All setups I would make dimmable panels

1. 5 panels, with each one droven by a single HLG-185H-C1050B with 5 CXB3590 36V
2. 3 panels with each one droven by a single HLG-240H-C700B with 10 CXB3590 36V
3. 5 panels, with each one droven by a single HLG-120H-C700B with 5 CXB3590 36V

Plan is to use 20% 5000K COB, 50% 3500K COB and 30% 3000K COB coming close to a spectrum of a MH/HPS mix.
I also have 4 15W ReptiGlo UVB tubes which I already use and I plan to keep them in my room.

The first option is my favourite, as I'm able to dimm the panels in summertime to 525mA and crank them up to the max 1050mA while flowering the last 3-4 weeks
if that makes any sense at all.

Also, I have no idea how to calculate the power consumption of these systems. Maybe this one works ?

I have 1 panel with 5 36V COB's on it. It's driven by a HLG-185H-C1050B (200W), that makes a total of 36V x 1.05A = 37.8 Watt or 189 Watt per panel ?
I know that 1 36V COB will run at max of 35V @ 1050mA.

I hope I can get someone to help me on that before I order.

Wanna run 4 12v fans on a single driver with a POT to control speed. Any suggestions? Does Meanwell make one that would work well? Is there a chart or diagram for this available?

Before I I began my search for DIY info, I emailed several light maker asking which chips they used by Bridgelux. Of the 5, 2 replied they didn't use any.......... and the rest never answered me, so I took that to mean they didn't either. Never tried to ID any in the Mars lights i have.

And although I'm now working to build a DIY light, as it is obvious they are superior to anything you can buy, I can't fault my Mars lights. they all ( 4 have been running from 2 to 2.5 years with no failures.) Say what you will, for some beginners with no knowledge and a small budget, they can get the job done. Just because yours broke doesn't mean they all will. I'd tell people, DIY if you are capable and can afford it certainly, but sometimes that just can't happen. And when a guy says he has say a $300 budget, don't tell him to go buy a $600 light, or even a $450 light.If he had $450 to spare for a light, he'd say so. I'd drive a Rolls Royce before I'd buy a Honda, but.........
I refuse to sell weed to finance my projects, or for any reason, so I have to take odd jobs or part time work when I need or want something. I'd love to order 20 CXB 3590s and all the rest, but it would take me a year. So i'm settling for CXA 2530's for now and investing in Meanwell drivers that I can still use when I can afford to upgrade. Last month I got 5 CXA 2530s and cob holders. This month it will be the heatsink, wire and screws. Next month the drivers. I plan to build three, so once one is built, i'll start ebaying my old lights to finance another build. I'm not the only one who has to do things this way. And if my lady didn't need the medicine I make for her MS, I'd just grow one plant at a time with whatever for a light. But I make a lot of oil for her and my daughter who has serious health issues also, so i need to maximize my harvest vs available grow space. Everything gets upgraded a little at a time.
Although I enjoy DIY, I don't enjoy it when I'm forced to go that way because of the lack of goddamn money!

I hope I sound reasonable with this, as that's my intent. DIY LED grow lights are where its at. I've spent hours here today, and many more over the last couple of months. This is a great thread for sure!

It's pretty difficult to answer. There are a few options I can think of but none of them is ideal.
1) A 42V driver with output power around 200W (HLG-240H-42, HLG-185H-42, ...) and run the COBs in parallel.
2) 2x ELG-150-C1400(min 180VAC input) or 2x HLG-120H-C1400
3) 4x single driver, such as LPC-60-1400, ...
4) A non-MW driver

Dude, Im moved by the common sense and heartfelt nature of your post, I would love to sell you a bucket of COB,s but get your issues, my lady suffers from an arthritic condition and daily pain so I feel you. If I can help your build in any way, drop me a line be happy to cut your costs where I can
