Which downward spotlight LEDs off the shelf at Home Depot would be recommended: Cree, Philips?
Cree.

I will call them with questions. when I ask them how many to replace a 600w hps in 4 x 4 , they will be straight up or want me to buy more than what I need?
How many A51 panels will it take to make SURE my girls still get alot of light loving. Thnks Again.
As JavaDog posted above, you're looking at using 2 to 4 LED panels in a 4'x4' space.
2 panels will give you a functioning garden, yield will be moderate, but you'll have weed to smoke.
3 panels will give you a nicer garden, light foot print and yield will increase, but you'd have to spend more.
4 panels will give you a top notch garden, yield will be very plentiful, but you'd have to spend twice as much.
I think 3 panels would give you results as good, if not better, than your 600W HPS.

Jeff (aka Eraserhead) at Area 51 is very friendly and helpful.
He will help you make the right decision for your garden and budget.
Good luck :)

Will talk with A51. Thanks alot guys. I have searched and searched but A51 keeps coming up as most bang for the buck and no worries that custumer service won't fix. Do you prefer the new ones last model or mix and match. I will ask them since most seem to trust them. But thanks so much for helping make my final decision.

Hallo, my 1st post here (and please excuse my English ..). I'm a total newbie in LED growing lights, I have tent 0.8m x 1.2m x 1.8m (~ 2.5 x 4 ft), 4-6 plants and I'm planning to replace 400W HPS with LED panel. Do you think that this panel will be suitable? http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/181261536702 - VIPAR Dimmable Reflector 360W LED. I'm from EU, so I need to order light inside EU (UK or other countries) to avoid custom office 'curiosity' .. In this moment I can't afford to buy light over ~$350 (220 pounds), but I also don't want to order 'total crap' from CN :]. 3-Year Warranty is also important for me ..I was trying to read appr. last 30 pages in this thread, imho 360w for 9sq feet should be just fine. I don't know the quality of these 'older' Vipar panels (used LEDs), but it could be 'golden middle way' for me, right? Another variant is www.ebay.com/itm/161108922599 - 360W Full Spectrum UFO (I don't know the brand), but it has CE & RoHS approval and 3-Year Warranty also. Which one could be 'more suitable'? :]Thanks for info, have a great day!
Hi, thanks for no reply on my post :P .. In the result I ordered VIPAR 450W LED Grow Light 3W (http://www.ebay.com/itm/171166753075), very fast delivery, well build quality light (only UK power cord, but on light there is 'common' IEC320 connector), good cooling (but not so quiet), four points for hang of light. In the combination with ORCA foil in growbox 1x1m (3x3ft) I hope that it will be good solution :]. When the growbox will be finished (only qestion of my time), I'll make some lux & dB measurement.

Just for anyone also wondering about Area 51, I emailed them myself and Jeff responded and said he would recommend 2 of their new 2014 lights in a 4x4 tent, hung about 6 inches apart and about 24 inches above flowering plants. I then asked about a 4x4 veg tent and he said you could try 1 of the 2014 lights on the 190w setting, or 2 of them on the 130w setting - about 36 inches above plants.

@Bad Karma - Since Area 51 said 2 lights, I'm wondering if 4 of them in a 4x4 would be massive overkill?

I recently finished my first harvest using a $150 el cheapo 200w LED. I pulled 97g dry weight of airy popcorn buds off 2 indicas in a 24"w 16"d 36"h cab using DWC.
Nice smoke!

I'm looking to step up to 1g/watt but simply to many options.
I just added a separate veg cab
so I'm focused on a top notch flowering unit for the above dimensions. Price isn't so much an issue as quantity and quality of yield is my goal.
Do the Area 51 units beat pro grow and hydro grow's X lens?

Sham,

I only took the published specs (2'X3' optimal coverage) and
figured out how many of these would be needed to fully cover
a 4'X4' tent.

With three of them, you can cover every square foot but one,
and so this would be fine.

With two A-52's you will have a 4'X3' coverage. So, you can
just use two, knowing that there is a 6" section on either side
that gets less coverage.

I will let BK respond more authoritatively. I am no LED authority.

Wrong - if you were to get them delivered by Santa into your stocking, then of course they'd literally be Christmas lights lmao.

I don't think this thread serves it purpose. So many questions on here and few to nil answers.
The problems is that it's the same questions over and over. The answer stays the same because we know what works whether you like the prices or not. And if someone doesn't like the price than they are better off getting a hps and getting results despite the wasted energy than buying a cheap low output ebay panel.

When someone with experience and knowledge shows/talks about a good light that actually performs...it's always to expensive for the person asking. Everyone seems to think led's are a cheap and lower performing light source...and it is when you buy crap. But when you buy quality like the experience users suggest(a51, apache, illumtex, indagro, hans, cree globes), things work like they are supposed to. But all the new comers think those suggestions are ridiculous or admit it's better...then just buy the thing everyone said not to...but hey what do I know.

True to a degree. I had a fairly specific question a few pages back that just fell behind and went unanswered. I admit I don't fully understand the led lighting, the market, and what's 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen. When comparing new led panels its very difficult to find any information to equally compare two panels. And with the goal of leds being, less power, same or better bud than hid, it seems like judging a panel based on wattage even when comparing the better led companies products is not useful. I'm going hid vs led. I already have a 400w hps and love it, might be a different story come summertime. I was looking at led panels mostly for veg on a perpetual grow and another panel for bloom to use with 400w hps but have standalone ability if heat became a major issue. Budget is 300 $ for a panel and I don't see anything that is going to do what I am aiming for. Ill get another 400 and tent and fan and I should have much better results than spending that on say the 100w lowest price light from advanced led. Not saying I don't still want an led. I just need a budget at least 500 $. So I will wait a year. Panels should come a long way by next year anyways. I am looking into building my own, maybe those 3 years of electronics class I took 10+ years might pay off.

I'll get to this in a second, but it needs to be here, to set the stage.

Well put Greengenes, many stubborn people come on here not to learn, but to get their decision reinforced.
When they discover that they made a poor choice for the price, they get all pissy, and blame LED's in general.
Not to mention, they get a little hostile towards us, too.

I had a fairly specific question a few pages back that just fell behind and went unanswered.
Here's the funny thing, your question did get answered, on the very next page.
Your question and the one I answered a few posts after it were virtually identical.
Had you done any reading you would have found the answer to your question, as it's posted, and reposted through out this thread (as Greengenes stated).
Advanced LED is relabeled Eshine panels, which are not the most reliable, or effective.
Your $300 is better spent on a Hans Panel, which will solidly cover a 2x2 area.
Since your area is 2x3, it's as good as your going to get for the price.
Well Banana444, now that you've had your answered spoon fed to you with your name on it, do you feel better?

Fucking A. Thanks a bunch. I am here to learn, and just like most others on here I'm sure their time is valuable. I read thru quite a few pages on this forum and considering half of what I read is either speculation, or just plain wrong, at some point it become very frustrating when trying to solve anything, and I read threw countless posts of nonsence. I did read threw after the question I asked and didn't think any answer was directed towards my question, I was getting the feeling that the hans panel was the next best thing when it comes to led panels. Thanks for the response.
