Excellent point. Another potential benefit of having the Illinois card even if Illinois goes legal is reciprocity in other states.
Your Ilinois card will keep you safe from arrest for possession in Arizona, Maine, and New Hampshire, and will also let you purchase from dispensaries in Michigan, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii (2019). Exceptions apply, and reciprocity strictness can vary even from dispensary to dispensary. But in the right circumstances, the card could save you from arrest or running out of medicine while traveling, and that's worth something.

More and more medical states are adding some form of reciprocity (e.g., Hawaii in 2019), and when you add the legal states (and let's not forget Canada), it's getting much easier (and safer) to travel as a cannabis patient.
However, as I said above, exceptions do apply from state to state and even store to store. The U.S. is still a patchwork of very new cannabis laws, and not everything is 100% clear on the reciprocity front. If you're planning to purchase from an out-of-state store while traveling, call in advance to be sure they'll accept your IL card.

I don't think so , there is info about it at IDPH , but I haven't looked at it. if you look , please share what you find out. I imagine if you re-new before your card expires it may be easy ?
My reasoning would mostly be the number of plants I assume medical can have over recreational.
I find the proposed 5 plants for legal to be hard to work around.
For the renewals it's a few weeks at most. I'm not sure about the re-applications, but everyone will have those after 3 years.
It depends on when you're renewing. The way I read the regulations (Section 946.290), your IDPH "approval" is good for three years. If you get approved but opt for a 1-year or 2-year card, you can go through an "expedited" renewal (until you hit three years) that bypasses the need for a physician's certificate or proof of residency. Once you hit three (3) years, whether because you opted for the 3-year card or after some renewals, then you have to go through the full application process again including producing a new certificate from your doctor.

You should try and call tomorrow, I bet they got to yours today, they had to have gotten to yours! I think the max I’ve waited on the phone was 10 minutes. If you call and get the ‘all our agents are busy’ you’ll get through to someone in less than 10! Just ask if your approved and I bet they say yes!!

I tried calling all day on day 97. On Day 100, got through about 2 pm, was told Just Approved on Day 97!. Card in Hand 2 days later.
And what was your timeline again? Sorry, for how much I’m on here, I should have it memorized! Haha
