:weed:I'm new here.Hello all.Got a question.Does anybody know where i can get a 5 0r 6 multi head lamp that is strong enough to hold my 10 or 12 cfl?I've seen grow boxes using muti head bath room vanity strip, but are too expensive? Can I use targets $20 5 head dorm lamp? It's only supposed to support 5 40 watt bulbs total. If I use that and 5 y slpitters, would it overload if I use 10 65watt and 105 watt bulbs? And could this start a fire in a 3X3X3 plywood grow box? Please help I want to make cannibutter to cook with.

What are you working with, closet, grow box, grow room, etc.

Your prolly better off buying Fluorescent tubes, what is your budget?

grow box, budget is $50 bucks cause i want to save for an hps, but for starters i want to do cfls, haven't gotten bulbs yet.Planning on getting 65 watt or 105s mix and match warm and cool. Add another $30 on top of that hopefully.

Check out this supply house:

Your better off spending your money on a real growing light and not trying to overload a fixture which may cause a fire.

50 bucks aint nowhere near enough, those 65ws are 18 a piece.....plus alot of them are not self ballasted so you need to buy that too, which is another 15-20 each.

this deal shipped to you would prolly be under $100. Dont screw around with piece-mealing a light in a wooden grow box. ur gonna burn down ur place or worse.

Add $50 buck to the $50 you already got and you got a real horticultural light delivered in less than a week. Don't be in such a hurry.

hope this helps . . . (here is the link to the below product - http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=53025

If you are in the market for a BRAND NEW HIGH OUTPUT GROW LIGHT, you have found what you are looking for!

About the system:

BALLAST & HOUSING

Dimensions: 9" long x 4" wide x 5.5" tall
This premium HTG SUPPLY GROW LIGHT ballast and components are housed in an ULTRA-EFFICIENT OPEN AIR BALLAST HOUSING. Unlike other enclosures that house their ballasts inside a metal box - causing heat build up and lowering component life and performance - the HTG SUPPLY GROW LIGHT ballast housing incorporates an OPEN AIR type enclosure. The housing is actually built around the copper coil ballast allowing for the heat generated by the ballast to dissipate quickly and efficiently. The #1 killer of electrical components (like the ignitor and capacitor) are excessive heat. Components such as the ignitor and capacitor are housed away from the ballast inside their own small enclosure thus keeping them cool and away from the heat generated by the ballast itself. This ballast enclosure design is time tested in industrial / commercial H.I.D. applications worldwide but THE HTG SUPPLY GROW LIGHT is the ONLY GROW LIGHT to incorporate this intelligent, simple and efficient design. The OPEN AIR design of the HTG SUPPLY GROW LIGHT keeps the components cooler than any other system on the market today! The remote ballast design is far superior to other designs found on eBay and other sites.

Includes 10’ grounded power cord that plugs into a STANDARD HOUSEHOLD OUTLET!

HORIZONTAL REFLECTOR
This top of the line HORIZONTAL REFLECTOR is made from the HIGHEST QUALITY MATERIALS available! Specifically designed for growing plants, this reflector incorporates a steel socket/reflector bracket, 5kv Pulse Rated Mogul Based socket and highly reflective polished aluminum reflector. The highly polished aluminum reflector has a mirror-like finish rated at 95% reflectivity for MAXIMUM LIGHT OUTPUT. This super reflective surface provides more raw light output than dimpled reflectors and is far superior in reflective qualities than cheap white painted reflectors which discolor over time. Polished Aluminum will NOT RUST, CHIP or CORRODE like inferior chrome reflectors do under the intense heat of a high intensity discharge (H.I.D.) bulb like the High Pressure Sodium (HPS) bulb that comes with this system. This reflector is built to last a lifetime and can easily be cleaned with common household window cleaner. Horizontal lamp configuration design allows for the greatest light coverage over the top of your garden area while providing the highest light intensity levels possible. It is widely recognized that the BEST design for horticultural reflectors is the HORIZONTAL REFLECTOR design incorporated with this reflector. Comes with two heavy duty steel hangers to hang your reflector from and a 10’ cord from the reflector to the ballast housing.

Reflector Measures Approx: 16"Long x 13"Wide x 6"Deep

HIGH OUTPUT 150w HPS BULB

Brand New HIGH OUTPUT 150 watt High Pressure Sodium bulb is rated at 16,000 lumens! Life expectancy is 24,000 hours. 22 CRI. The 150 watt HPS bulb is a very popular bulb used by the indoor hobbiest grower today. The 150 watt HPS is more efficient in producing light than it’s Metal Halide counterpart and also features very little lumen loss over it’s lifetime compared to Metal Halide bulbs. You can expect only a 10% decrease in lumens over a bulbs 3 year (24/7) lifetime. Compare that to Metal Halide where as much as a 50% decrease in lumen output over it’s shorter lifetime and initially lower light output than HPS and it is clear to see why the HPS is so popular. It is believed the HPS bulb’s bright "yellowish" spectrum mimics that of the "harvest sun", triggering plants to develop flowers rapidly and abundantly. You can expect excellent results using this HPS bulb and it is good for ALL STAGES of PLANT GROWTH.

Remember - HIGHER LUMEN OUTPUT equates into MORE PLANT GROWTH and HIGHER TOTAL YIELDS.

WARRANTY:

Warranty for this system is 2 years on the ballast and components and 1 year for the bulb. Remember, this is simply the warranty. This system should provide ten, even twenty or more years of reliable service.

dont overload you circuits by using more wats then you should on you sockets especially iff they are in a plywood box its better to spend a little more then lose everything to a fire.
Nature cure is right maybe use some fluro tubes.

Thanks guys, I've done like a week of searching and know that hps is the way to go for the most part,I was going to go with cfls because I thought hps was more dangerous because of the heat. A fire is my biggest concern I really would rather not go too much over using 400 total watts including lights and fans anyway. Should I have some sort of anti flamable material between hps and top of grow box, my light has to be real close to the top when the plants get bigger? remember its 3x3x3.

the floro tubes would be good for vegging. plus there is very little heat compared to hps.

i think it will be hard to squeeze a 400w hps into a 3x3x3 space.

thank you.everyone here is so helpful. at least i have some options now. I'm a perfectionist so once i have a near perfect plan and materials, etc.,i'd like to pay it forward and start another thread that shows step by step what i've done. Also getting in person advice from a hydro shop owner i grew up with, gonna give him a call.hahahah--zeeeee perfect plaaaan hahaha:).

I picked up 4ft 4lamp t5 HO setup for 150 even at my local shop. You're looking at what, half the light? Dunno bout the prices on a 2ft 4lamp but id imagine it be at least 50 less. This is my 2nd grow though, first was done with MH then HPS and had great results. Just cant afford the light bill now, seeing the quanity has went up 3x. I'm happy with t5 so far though, specially happy with the reduced price of my electric bill.

if i am not mistaked the 65w &105w both need large sockets. the mogel sockets. you can't use standard light sockets to screw those bulbs in. if your using the standard size cfls you could build a milti socket bulb holder with old lamps from good will. get those ulgy lamps for a buck or two. keep the socket toss the rest.
