I'm a noob, can you school me??

Hey there everyone, so I'm pretty excited to say that after lots of saving up and determination I think I'm about ready to get some plants in the ground this week.


I think I attached a picture of our room above (I'm on mobile so its retardedly difficult) I have a few a questions though...

Should we tarp off both of the open sides with the plastic as well? Will the CO2 levels be sufficient without supplementing it with just a intake fan from outside?

Also we are going to do 18, 5 gallon pots in this space... When I bring the clones home should I put them under a T5 when I transplant them into their pots? I'm worried the 1000w will fry them.

Okay you are motivated to get this going and going well. No screw ups, a big yield of killer herb...
What's the size of the space. Will you be able to move around when they get bigger than the pots? How long will they be vegged?
What is the strain that's coming?
Will that be 1000 or 2000 k
CO2 is a good thing if done right. I have the ability to use it, but pass on it most of the time for various reasons...
I would get everything dialed in right before I worked on getting CO2 in.
Light 1st., soil, nutrients or organic, Heat, cooling, good air exchange, and circulation.

If you haven't paid for ballasts yet - go with Dimmable Digital ballasts that go from 50% to 110% for a small amount of added lumens. You can start clones on 400 w ballasts or a 1000 watt thats turned to 500 watts. They can even be started on 1000 watts - just don't get them too close at first. I start clones on 1000 with the light being at least 3 feet away with no heat on them...
CFL's and or T5 will do the job nicely until they get used to the environment.

Hey thanks for your reply. There will be roughly a foot and a half of extra space on each side of the 4 x 8 trays... Like I said I'm not sure if we need to enclose it or not? Thinking of doing 3-5 week veg depending on their size. We have a choice of a couple types of clones but are thinking about going with 3XOG or headband.

The lights are each 1000w and I already bought ballasts that are magnetic but I got a good deal on a package... I guess we could start the clones under one light then move to two??

One light will be fine... That's defiantly enough light to keep them happy! I use 400 watt to veg as I'm in no rush... Then when they go to flower they get a good blast of light.

Definitely add reflective material to all sides. how tall is the space?

Also I think we are going to need an AC unit until winter is upon us. I had a question... Should we place it so the AC is drawing air from outside of the grow room ? Will this air be filtered sufficiently?

Sorry I'm asking a million questions. I don't have another means of making a living, just getting people their medicine so I want to make sure this all goes fairly well so I can support my family. Thanks for all the help <3

hi :)

First off @fractalcat you will need to adjust the light so its over the top of the plants and not sideways, this will allow the plant to grow upwards rather than sideways.

The hooks you have on the wall which you've cleverly hooked the lights on to go sideways ( bravo btw, very clever :) ) need to be on the ceiling above your head like so .....


You can see the difference :)

No problem at all. I'm retired and now enjoying a good life - I'm very grateful for my life now!
I live at 5,000 ft. so haven't ever had to mess with AC... I'm somewhat practicle with my growing now that I'm living on a pension. In past years I just tossed everything light wise at the plants. Growing for others will put more stress on getting each grow done in a timely manner so it will cost more to get everything dialed in right and running smoothly.

I use nutrients. In the past I spent a lot of money and bought up a ton getting ready for retirement. Now I use my own mix of nutrients - My mix isn't perfect, but it's getting close and at a decent cost. I spend more money on nutrientsduring the flowering stage. For vegging I mainly use a good soil mix to start... Then I just give them generic miracle grow in powder form. If you have the money - read up in threads on nutrients - There are a TON of different recipes....

For lights I don't buy the expensive hortilux type bulbs any longer... I get bulbs at a fraction of that cost shopping online at 1000bulbs.com - I just checked on the 1000 watt metal hylide for vegging... Sylvania 1000 watt MH for under 20 bucks.

I'm pretty sure the picture is rotated 90 degrees/sideways.

I can't believe I have to redesign my whole grow room. Hours of work, wasted :wall:
