I'm curious who actually cuts the bottom leaves off there plant?

I have several people that say you should remove the first say six inchs or so from the bottom to increase yield on the top buds since you don't really yield anything off of the small one anyways, does anyone have any insight on this? I've never done it and i've always yielded well yeah the small ones do not make up for much but it seems that you take away plant that could absorb light and yield less but would like to hear some reviews on this

I remove them when theyre ready to come off, no sooner than that unless theyre touching the soil after transplant or something.

i always have done that. even with autos. it has made all my autos very bushy, regardless of indica or sativa.

for me, the yeild is not effected either way. i still pull over 4 oz a plant. i find it makes trimming up at the end easier as opposed to throwing all the popcorn away. so i just do it now for that reason

U remove or lollipop any lower greenery to have the plant produce more on top. Usually done just before flip. Lower buds usually are fluffy and useless unless u like popcorn. 90% of the time makes plants produce more compacked internodes thus making a full branch have no spacing and get nothing but buds per branch. Works well for most strains. Usually maine lining, topped or SCROG.

He was talking leaves, youre mostly talking growth shoots. Big difference IMO, i remove low growth shoots but leave the fans on at the node to get the same effect but preserve canopy.

I remove if small and and aren't gonna produce much anyway, but always do it before flower. You can pretty much tell if you have small branches that aren't going to produce anything but popcorn. I think it helps yield in the end cause you have more yield top wise as opposed to a few little popcorn nugs that aren't gonna weight anything in the end anyhow. same goes for leaves.

Dont trim any leaves. Just trim off the lower bud sites a week or two before flipping, you end up with bigger tops.

By all means cut or trim anything along the bottom to get good air movement through the bush. Nothing down there the plants or you can't live without, don't be scared you won't kill or maim it.

you should remove lower branches that don't receive much light in flowering as the plant uses a lot of energy growing what will be bad flowers this energy can go toward growing the rest of the plant that does get light meaning bigger plants and yields. You don't remove any of the leaves from the lower branches you do keep, but you can and should defoliate some of the big fan leaves that might be covering budding sites, not many leaves though. unless the plant is huge, just a couple to several leaves are good, but only if necessary, say maybe if theres a few big ones pointing inwards to the middle of the plant that might cover many other budding sites. Some plants might need no defoliating.

If you cut off any leaves that are still green and healthy,then you just threw away the nessesary food (in the form of complex starches) the plant uses for bud growth.These starches are only created in the leaves and from there feed the whole rest of the plant.Weigh the facts before you remove leaves.

That's why plants have a bunch of leaves, losing a few won't hurt its progress or keep it from doing what it would have anyway. Not being a smart ass here but removing leaves so the light shines on bud sites...now that's a crime. It's a weed in the end and has the genes to persevere, adapt and overcome most anything except the wrong pH.

Lollypopping worsens yeilds, it doesn't increase them. The problem with the original post is that he/she mentions removal of the bottom 6 inches.....of what? How tall is the plant you are taking six inches off?
Real lollypopping kills yeild. "Undershucking" as i call it, takes out the lower 1/4 and the center suckers. In tight spaces itll make trimming easier and yields good. Especially when plants are over three feet tall. If you run small plants then less pruneing is necessary to get adequate light down low. @hellmutt bones , did you start growing? Or are you still retired?

I guess I was just trying to me in general, so yeah say 25% of the bottom or so
