Whales spotted near Rio Vista


zoom out and see how far up the river they are. the news is saying it is 2 humpback whales. they are trying to "herd" them back out into the ocean.

i've seen them in the ocean. a much better site by far.


but still it's a whale, like 50 miles up the river.

they are mom and baby. they are both injured. they've gone 96 miles up river. they are stuck in the turn basin in Sacramento. they need help.

We love to whale watch. Spend a lot of time at the coast each year. This is so sad. Is there a reason they won't turn around and end back to sea?

they are trapped in the turning basin. it is a big deep area where all the big ships turn around. they apparently can't find the canal to get back out (???). there was 1 in the river years ago. they used feeding calls to "lure" it back out into the ocean. it worked. they are trying that with these soon.

someone please help them. thousands of people have gathered along the shore. hundreds of boats are teaming up to go out and try to scare them out with load noises.

I say they send a sub in dressed up like a whale.
So it can show them the way out.

I hope they will be alright.

I think we need to collectively send them telepathic messages. hehehehe
sorry it is sad though.

Maybe this will be something that people will learn from whales.
Possibly learn what to do for next time something like that happens.
Which is not too off the wall considering global warming and changes in their habitats.

why wouldnt they do what they did 20 yrs ago?? use the feeding recordings to lure them out??? or did they already try that??

they already tried that. except they only had recordings of Alaskan whales. these are Californian whales. apparently they don't speak the same language.
