I'm growing outside in a humid subtropical climate but I planted at the end of June...

Hi there, any advise here would be greatly appreciated. I'm growing outside in pots in a humid subtropical climate but I planted my babies at the end of June. This is late I know. I am now worried because the days are already getting shorter and the temperatures are dropping. The plants are still in their vegetative stage and the conditions are changing. They are not ready to flower yet. Will I have to continue their growing with artificial lighting so that they can have 18 to 24 hours until they are ready to flower?
Many thanks in advance.

I planted this master kush clone out around july 13 it was about 7" tall when it went in the ground. I put a CFL light on it from sundown till about 10;30 pm as of today it is about 4 foot tall and in flower. I don't think you need 18 to 24 hours of extra light I only gave mine about 2 -3 hours of extra light and it grew fast. I only fertilized with Fish emulsion and now I am giving it Jamican bat guano 0-10-0

I took the supp. light off it about week ago. master 8-24-14 sunny view.JPG

The smaller plant has had problems because it is in different soil to the others and it gets very compact and doesn't dry out so it has stunted its growth. I don't know what to do with it. It just isn't growing like the others. It has dropped in temperature here now, there has been little sun and lots of rain and grey dark days. Are they okay to flower yet indoor sun king? Or should I give them extra light as FL Keys1 has. Many thanks.

Hi there, I am confused to which bulbs I need. Do you mean just a normal CFL bulb from the shop? Or does it have to be specialised? Is the CFL bulb for the vegetative stage or the flowering stage? Many thanks.

By the way, they are green crack plants, if that make any difference...

I think they are ready for the flowering....CFL bulbs are rated in temps....for flower you want about 2700K...for veg 6500K

I just used a regular CFL bulb but it was only used to provide extra light since it was a clone and under 24 hour light and I did not want it to go in to flower as a little clone.

If those were mine I would let them go in to flower..

But if you are in the tropics you should never really get that cold, right

Yes, it gets very cold here in winter. The temperature is dropping a bit even now. Autumn should stay alright for a bit still though.
So how do I let them flower? Just leave them outside without artificial lighting and let the shortening days tell the plants to flower? So just to confirm, your both saying that I don't need to give them extra artificial lighting to increase the vegetative stage?
Thanks guys! I'm a first time grower.Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 12.58.24.png

they should trip soon, as it's late August now....you don't need light as much as you need darkness to trip them

you could move them into a dark room for about 10-12 hours a night.....they will start to flower in about 5 days

Others will cover the plant with a dark bag to create the dark period

Correct do not add light. Just let nature takes it's course or cover with tarp or put in dark room 12 hours of dark will kick in to flower quick

Hi there again, I have decided to beef my plants up for a week or so with artificial lighting. They are in their 6th or so week of the vegetative stage. Am I making a mistake here? Is there a risk of leaving your plants in the vegetative stage for too long? Many thanks xxx

If you are extending the light period and leaving them out you may have issues with mould if it gets rainy. As others have said it would be better to deprive them of light imo. Temps look ok though to just let them do there thing.

Thanks waterdawg, and to all of you lovely people who have taken the time out of your day to help a fellow grower. Much love to you all.

Hi again, I know I need 12 hours on, 12 off for my plants to flower. I have read a lot about the smallest amount of light stopping them from going into the flowering stage. My plants are on a balcony. Lots of artificial light comes from the opposite tower block and all of the tower blocks around, roads and my house. Is this going to be a problem? Should I make a room for them that is completely dark? Would putting bin bags over them be safe for the plants? Many thanks for any help and/or advice.
