Im New to This (Help Me Out)

OK so i want to start a small or medium size grow i was thinking maybe 25 to 30 plants. i wanted to use 2 250 watt hps an one 400 watt mh to flower an 2 400 watt mh to veg. its my first grow so im going to use bag seeds. an fox farms soil an nutrients an im using a room dats da size of a avg dorm in a college ......................what else do u think i need to knw to get started hw should i build my room an do u think i will needd odor control or an htings like that an whats da best way to get the greatest yeilds out of my garden?

So for that number of plants I'm guessing you're looking into doing a sog? If so, you may be better off just using 2 400w hps for flowering and 2 250w mh for veg. You can get decent coverage of 3x3 with a 250w and 4x4 with a 400w. What are the dimensions of your room? This is a lot to put into a first grow to only be using bag seed.

Also you will most likely need a room a/c and a very good carbon filter/fan combo for that many plants. Should probably look into air cooled hoods and also how do you plan to divide up and light proof veg and flower areas?

In my opinion you need a lot more light for 25-30 plants

If covering a 4x4 per 400w and 3x3 per 250w:
9 plants per 400w gives 18 in flower
4 plants per 250w gives 8 in veg
24 plants total, and he could maybe squeeze a few more in there. This would only really work for a sog though, if he wants bigger plants then yeah at least a few 600w lights for flower and 400w ones for veg.

Hey just saw your other thread too, unfortunately you will not get nearly 2 pounds every 4 months using the lighting I advised above. When you said small to medium I was figuring 1-1.5oz plants (18oz total), but if you were to go with 2 400w mh for veg and 3 600w hps for flowering you could probably get close to where you want to be. This is probably the least you could use to be able to get around 2 lbs per grow, but would recommend doing a perpetual style sog. With that you'd want to have each of the lights over plants in a different stage of growth. Sog utilizes many small plants to give the yield of few larger plants. This decreases the veg time needed and can give better yields if done correctly. I also do not think using bag seed is a very good idea for what you'd like to get out of this. Get good genetics, start a couple of mother plants, and go from clone. It'll be faster and more reliable as well as giving you better yields and potency. With what your goal is you're already looking at a couple thousand dollars minimum, so some fem seeds or clones to start you off isn't that expensive.

18 oz will work also i just want it like in a routine wher i dont run out idk how to use sog or scrog but with 400 watt mh an 250 hps what can i do to get 1 or 2 pounds from soil in a timely matter.... isay 400 watt mh an 250 watt hps cus dats what my garden strecarry they dnt carry anything to much bigger

With the lighting mentioned and your lack of knowledge, i estimate it will take you approximately 20months to harvest 2lbs in total from around 6 grows.


Now go do some reading before we really get pissed off.

Is there any reason you aren't looking into getting your lights and such from online? HTGsupply has really good prices on most things and you could order a lot at once to save on shipping. If you stagger two 400w lights by half the flowering cycle you could be pulling a harvest every 5 weeks and replace it with plants from your veg light right away to keep it continual. A t-5 fixture could keep a couple mother plants happy and pulling clones from each cycle would be fine. Once clones are rooted they could be moved under a 250 or 400 mh to veg until putting them into flower. 9oz per 400w light isn't an outrageous expectation but it's going to take a lot of inputs and cost a good bit upfront.

Cycle I would use is:
Mothers: 4ft 4 bulb t-5
Clones: with mothers till rooted
Veg: 4 clones under 250w mh
Flowering: first 5 weeks 400w mh, last 5 weeks 400w hps

Woah relax man, he's new and doesn't recognize how much he's looking to get out of so little. If he gets another 400w for flowering and a 250w for veg he could get some decent results. I agree he's got a lot to learn but that doesn't mean he can't put in the work and get a good result from it. If he reads up on everything before starting he could pull 8-9oz off each of two 400w lights every 4-5 weeks and probaby be pretty happy with it. No, it isn't nearly what he first said he's looking for, but it'd still be a lot of bud.

yes i dont want to be traced but im doing some reading in the stickies an stuff ima write you when i get done an im getting all my supplys from fifthseason garden company i have a light an soil an other little stuff on there but if you can check out the site an let me knw if they hav sumthing else i should have let me knw that would be great i preciate all the help kawizzr an j....im new to the forum an to growing just tryong to grow my on medical bud i dnt want 10 lbs or anything jus enough to last me till my next yeild

i agree , however he wants to try SCROG or SOG but doesnt know what they are, which to me means he aint reading.


I have already given this guy advice and told him to read the stickies and to look up grow room design. Most people on here with knowledge have gained it by reading books and magazines, and by researching on the internet. I just wish sometimes people would look beyond the big buds and massive yields that some people manage to accomplish and realise that to get good results everything has to be as near to perfection as you can get it.

To help people who are at least willing to help themselves a little first.

The reason i am on newbie central is because i still consider myself a noob. All be it a pretty well informed one. I started Growing Early Dec 09 and and registered on the site in the january after i had been in flowering for around 4weeks. I managed this by reading and learning and having a go.

To begin with i grew 2 plants using a 1x600w HPS.

So he's asking about things he's got an interest in but doesn't quite understand, if you don't like it then don't reply to him. I didn't really understand scrog the first time I read what it was, saw a start to end journal using it and then understood. Different strokes for different folks. I'm still a noob at this too man, but I feel like that's one reason I enjoy helping others on here; it forces me to go out and read things I wouldn't normally read in order to be able to help others.

I rocked cfls and a 150w hps for my first grow doing a few autos and a mango kush clone respectively. I'm using the 150 again this grow to try and maximize my yield from it. Once I'm confident in my ability to get close to 1 gpw consistently I'll step it up to something bigger, but the biggest I can likely go in my situation is maybe a single 400w. Doesn't mean I haven't read up on the bigger lights. If I had the space this guy does I'd probably be going all out as well. Why not? He's got a 10x10 room and has come to a place where others can help him figure things out. So leave him alone man, go do you and let him do his own thing.

The cycle kawizzr mentioned is good I've done a few similar grow cycles and worked great. The 5 week m/h 5 week hps is personal preference I personally use m/h all the way through with excellent results.

I'm growing 30 plants in 3gal with two 1000 HPS. you need to consider ventalation if you haven't already done so. And a co2 generator so your plants bulk up. Did that help?

It's not his fault that marijuana cultivation is illegal, I'm getting really tired of people ragging on the newbs. Just steer these people in the right direction, they didn't write the laws, they're not threatening to kick your door in, yet somehow all this negative energy is directed at them. FREE THE HERB!!!! fuck the cops!!! HELP THE NEWBS!!!!

I'm not trying to be negative here, but part of the reason this information isn't widely known is because it's illegal. I understand the frustration, but it's being directed at the wrong people.
