I'm building my first hydroponics setup and wanted to learn about chemical solutions...

I've heard nothing but good things about the fox farm product line, But I'm on a budget, and am looking for the best bang for my buck

** if i can afford it at the time, I will get it though, I'm looking for alternatives**

I wanna run Rock wool or some other type of material
** suggestions are always appreciated**

do a rubbermaid dwc with solo cups instaed of net pots, and use general hydroponics' flora line of floragro, florabloom, and floramicro. same thing as the fox farm nutes, but way cheaper.

most expensive thing you'll need is the pump and airstone. and if you're really on a budget, you can go to a buddy's house who has an aquarium and just snag his. ;)

I have a 75 gallon fish tank but thats currently inhabited...it would be nice to use that ** sarcasm**

this is a bagseed grow ** my first one, I wanna do it right**

I gotta be conscience of the size and shape of my system...

I'm gonna run a rubber maid setup in the "freezer" ** four 150w CFL's** for my vegging for 0-6 week

its being mounted in the bottom "Crisper" area of a refrigerator for flowering with a 400w MH bulb. I was thinking custom Plexiglas and fiberglass enclosure I figure I can get 6-8 plants in a 20"x28"x12" space

sounds good. i'm gonna do a scrog on an 18 gallon rubbermaid with a switchable 400w mh/hps. nice and small, but you still get good yield. i'll be able to do 5 at a time. get some pics up and let everyone see!

Are those all natural, such as guano and worm casting based or chemical based? reason i ask is because im on the organic kick.

Consider GH Floranova line for "best bang for your buck" Nutrients. They are kind of a pain in the ass to mix, but they are super concentrated, one bottle lasts a long time...

Cheap? Easy? then its gotta be DWC. Get a $6 eighteen gallon rubbermaid tote with lid, cut 4 holes in lid that are just a bit smaller than the mouth of whatever "pot" you plan on using. You can use old plastic soda bottles with the tops cut off and a bunch of medium holes drilled in bottom for roots to grow out of. Pet Smart has an air pump for a 20 gal aquarium for only $11, and airstone for $3, pick up some air hose for $4 more. Rockwool is cheap also, $10 for enough to do several grows. Now Lights will be the most expensive, a cheap setup gonna cost $50 or so for some CFL, $100 + for HID lighting.

No reason you can't grow something for less than $150 total. FWIW Miracle grow/scotts type fertilizers can also be used, the liquid kind. be gentle on how much you use , they are quite a bit more concentrated than the regular hydro nutes. I know the MG stuff is only a few dollars.

if I were to use the plastic rubbermaid containers(clear container with white lid), should i paint the outside black, with a few coats, then white on top of that?
