Im tasting METAL

i have a "titanium" nail with dome setup that i used for shatter. When i was smoking the shatter it had a weird chemical taste to it. Ive been thinking it was the shatter but now that ive been using it on some bubble hash im still tasting it. Could this taste be coming from the nail? Like from the nail degrading? The shatter was from an unknown source, but i make the bubble hash so i know that it wasnt contaminated. thanks for any input

I have no clue with the nail. it was cheap. And i probably am dabbing while its too hot.

Cheap TI nails are scary. I've since made the switch to quartz, and I have a reputable TI nail.

Is your nail shiny?

A shiny nail heated to glowing red will always test like that.

Get a corner of your nail dull red... take your time getting your dab, this allows enough time for the nail to cool a bit for optimal taste/vaporization.

If it's super shiny..
It needs seasoning.

You mention your TI was cheap....
I recommend not using it any longer..

A good Ti nail will outlive it's owner when propely taken care of.

Holy hell.. I've been getting some really good water hash lately and vaporizing good, REAL good bubble...
The taste blows away every single solvent extract I've ever tasted.

I've been using my enail (rig) and pen atomizers..
It truly is the essence of the flower.

If only it were not for complete shitty yields unless one has multiple pounds of Super dank trims.
I may start making more and more...

I got a nice little present coming just after 4/20.. Super frosty trim that has been stored away properly..

I'm thinking half oil/half hash.
It'll prolly be all oil though..
While the taste is unmatched..the high from quality oil is unmatched..

Hence the desire to have both.

I'm certainly no expert but i take time like SirD says and let the nail cool down some before hitting from it. Usually torch till orange/red then wait about 10+ seconds before i go for it. It's no longer glowing red/orange by then

this is another time were buying cheap. isnt buying good.. make sure u know what kind of titanium it is.. or if it is titanium.. like i say to alot of my friends that grow and shit.. in this BUSINESS.. THERE IS NO GOOD DEAL OR CHEAP EQUIPMENT thats WORTH IT.. most of the stuff thats cheap.. doesnt last half as long.. or work half as good.. all the way from cheap glass pieces and fake or cheap titanium nails.. and or cheap ballasts or timers or cheap ph pens.. or cheap Bulbs.. or Cheap extension cords..... it all has a PRICE and QUALITY TO IT. .even hoods.. when u test them with a light meter.. and see how big a difference the metalic shit in the hood makes.. and the shape so air can flow as quickly as possible.. theres a REASON behind some of these companies IDEAS.. you just need to do your Research before buying.. because even with Genetics.. u grab some cheap seeds.. and next thing u know. u got some 10-12 week GARBAGE thats barely crystally or hermis 6 weeks in.. and u dont catch it in time.. and its a fucking SEeed FEST..

The improtant part is that it is Commercially Pure Titanium, as opposed to an alloy containing Aluminum and Vanadium.

Because there is more 6AL4V and 5AL2.5V Titanium alloy used than commercially pure titanium, the scrap is significantly cheaper and what most cheap Ti objects are made out of. The Soviet Union dumped mega tons of 6AL4V on the market when they scrapped some of the nuclear submarines which had hulls made of the stuff, and is how Titanium golf clubs ever got affordable.

if your taste metal in your mouth days after smoking , and not just wile smoking. this is a very common sigh of kidney failure . hopefully you only taste metal wile smoking ?

So I have to chime in. I too used to taste a "metallic" taste after some time on my Dab Essentials, but if thoroughly clean it in alcohol and all the residual black comes out, it tastes fine. Maybe a hard-mode clean will tell you.

Until seasoned, a Titanium nail has a strong metalic taste. Have you seasoned it to build up an inert alpha case on it yet?

The only cleaning a nail should require, is to heat it to bright orange regularly to reduce all organics to C02 and water vapor, like a self cleaning oven.

Okay so everyone keeps using the term season. how do I season a nail? Also the nail that I have is definitely not a grade two titanium. What's a good dome less grade two nail?
