Im tired of the dispensaries! Help me build my entire first grow!

So it struck me, im paying nearly 400 a oz for good weed! Being a medical patient I can grow, so guys here is what I want to do.

My space available?

5x5 feet

Budget? Well lets say I can do $1000-1500, but if its not needed, I wont spend so much.

Regardless here is what I was thinking

3 Plants in veg
3 Plants (immature)

So I want to do a perpetual grow, with 3 being ready to harvest.

So RIU-what should I get all together? Originally I looked at a kit, but meh not worth it!

Also if these lights etc are available cheaply online any and all links are of great help!

I would spend $400 on (3) 100w UFO LED grow lights, $25 on 23w 2700K CFLs(that's about 15 lights) , $25 on 6500K CFLs (about 8 lights), $35 on 3 yo-yo hangers, then you can make your own light rigs with DIY 8 plastic light screw ac adapters and 8 y splitters and 10 extension cords, a timer and a box fan and 6 water catching plastic soucers (walmart has everything but y splitters you have to go to homedepot) runs about $75. For buckets you want 3 air-pots 3 gallon pots for vegging/flower, and ( 3 ) 1 gallon pots for babes. Buy some dirt compost, use foxfarm nutes (grow big, tiger bloom), ph meter, ppm meter and a 4x4 grow tent ($175 another) and you'll have about 9 oz in 90 days from 3 plants. Grand total = $~900... to eliminate smell you're going to need to spend another $120 on a can filter and inline fan and ducting!

i found my set up very cheap at my local hydro store (600w hps ballast, bulb, 33''x24'' hood, buckets, soil, nutes, 10'x10' panda ppr. a little over $300) so dont forget to check yours out is applicable. not too dicreadit ssj4jonathan's set up.

sounds like ya might need 2 tents veg and flower ......but im not positive what u mean 3/4 tent 1/4 for babies

ah sorry ill explain-I was wondering if I could pull off the 6 plants in just 1 grow tent..........you know allocating the space to my big plants, and a small section for immature plants, or do I need a absolute second tent to case my immature babies who are not ready to finish

If you're serious about growing yourself quality smoke so you quit spending so much, really take the time to read these forums up and down. All the information is here somewhere. Learn the systems, how they work, how YOU want to grow your plants, and don't cut corners because it'll only come back to bite you in the ass later on.

5x5 room, 6 plants, $1500 to spend. You have the means to pull off good crops.

Get a good light, tent, REAL fans no rigged up bullshit, dehumidifier, AC if where you live gets hot(or figure a way to get cool air in), like I said just don't cut corners. It'll cost at least double to fix than doing it right to begin with.

I would spend at least 3 months reading all the different grow systems available and the outcomes and problems of them. The more you study now, the less you have crap happen later and you will likely save money too.

That said, figure a gram a watt for your lighting. You will not get that first time, more like a half a gram, but get an idea of how much light you need. If stealth is important a good carbon filter and fan is important. You are legal and so am I, but I still need the stealth for my own reasons. Soil is right for a first timer, hydro can wait. If you are in Cali. it is not legal to have veg and mature plants going at same time, in my area any way.

I use a tent that fits in closet, 2x2', works great to give several oz. harvest every 3 months. 250 watts for a 2x2' area, 600 watts for a 3x3', 1000 watts for a 4x4 or larger. I use soil amended with perlite and extra organic nutes, and just water the plants. Easiest way I know of. I use LED and flouros for my grow, HID was too hot. You will have to figure all that out, and by reading and asking questions you will get close. Actual experience will supply the rest of the puzzle.

As many fluorescent tubes and ballasts that money can buy. Inexpensive, tubes are cool enough to touch the buds and not burn them (with adequate ventilation) + Lower infrared signature, parts are widely available, you can switch out lights quickly and effortlessly, mix and match Kelvin grades, Ballasts are real quiet in comparison to HID HPS/MH, will produce AWESOME buds if enough lights are used, etc... You can also get like 2x250W dual spectrum HPS and fluorescent tubes as additional side/lower vegetation lighting (tubes can even be wedged neatly between nodes to light up the inner/lower branches). My 2 cents.

Read my comments on stealth in that thread. My stealth concerns are the occasional repairman or cable guy, so it's not an everyday need but it's smart to have a setup that can be disguised just by pulling a plug. With your budget, you can use one cab for flowering, and one for vegging, giving you 5 or 6 harvests per year instead of 3 or 4 with one cab.

I'm using a 4x4x6 box in my basement and I have to tack bedsheets around it when I have stealth needs, lol.

Die hard HID growers, scoff and hackle LEDs and CFLs grows all you want... continue your obstinate ways and refuse to acknowledge a new frontier of lighting technology, i can care less, its your loss. My aforementioned set-up will work miracles, I know from experience. For example, this person grew 2 plants under 2 90w UFO LEDs ONLY, and got 5.5oz, that's .85g/w! And if you really know anything about LEDs, you know that their drivers only work at about 66% efficiency... so the real (actual draw) of wattage is much lower!

Throw in superoots air-pots (best pots on the market bar none) and CFL side lighting and you're more likely to get around .90+g/w. From what I've read, most HID growers get around .7g/w, if they're lucky! Hmm... maybe that's because only ~50% of HID light is used by plants (lots of yellow and green light ), the rest gets turned into heat. smokejoe, if you go the cheap lighting route, most of your money will be spent up on heat pumps (AC, INLINE fans, water chillers... etc), with LEDs all you need is a box fan to keep the air circulating and from getting too warm... LEDs combined with CFLs keep grow tents at a steady 80F with the aid of a box fan, 85F without a fan. Plus LEDs will outlast HPS bulbs 10x fold... and will cost much less to operate over their life time, (the benefits are numerous). Anyways, a 5x5 grow tent is way too big for only 3 flowering plants, go with a 4x4 and use your closest to mature the babies under daylight CFLs... That's my two cents... It takes balls to give up the "old" way of doing things for something new yet little understood. Apples to apples, compare watts to watts and then you'll see how LEDs out shine the competition.

EDIT:HID lights don't suck so much, they act as very good heat lamps during winter, and produce enough usable light for plants. Statement retracted... Although LEDs are still way more superior, going to stand by that one till plasma bulbs come out!

Sounds like you want to have a vegging room and a flowering room.
Buy 400 or 600 watt MHS light to veg your plants, and 400 or 600 watt HPS light for flower room.
This way you can keep a steady harvest time going for every couple weeks.
600 Watters are like $200-$300 max online with ballast timer and all.
Ventalation system isnt hard to make you just need supply's which will cost around $200.
And your idea with the tents would be perfect. Smaller room for veg, bigger one for flowering.
Thats why you should get a 400 watt MHS light for your vegging room and 600 watter HPS for flowering.
Thats what I perfer. I think with $1500 investment at the max would make a beautiful room and alot of marijuana.
