how far away should i keep the lamp from the seedlings.i dont wanna burn them.

I could get my 400 hps within 12-14" with a 6" fan blowing accross the top so you could get it a few inches closer than that!

T5's or cfl's are best for seedling but mh will do and also do great during veg but you might wanna invest in a hps for flower!

unless you have a 6500 K bulb (unlikely) they aren't that good. Get some 6500 K CFLs.

yes, the standard, off the shelf MH is 4000 K (very poor for growing, see chart) A horticultural MH will have enhanced spectrum's Daylight 6500 K for vegging and a Warm for flowering 3000 K. http://htgsupply.com/products.asp?categoryID=4&subcategoryID=83&typeID=43

Yea thanks frmrboi i didnt kno that! Also i have a replacement 400 watt bulb for my hps i dont think its a horticultural bulb will this make a difference in growth when i have to change it?

nope, HPS is all the same, good. You can buy deluxe bulbs with added blue light, worth it if you can afford it. http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47266
