Important Warning about CFL lights!!

My cousin sent me this:

Below is a picture of a CFL light bulb from my bathroom. I turned it on the other day and then smelled smoke after a few minutes. Four inch flames were spewing out of the side of the ballast like a blow torch!

I immediately turned off the lights. But I’m sure it would have caused a fire if I was not right there. Imagine if the kids had left the lights on as usual when they were not in the room.

I took the bulb to the Fire Department today to report the incident. The Fireman wasn’t at all surprised and said that it was not an uncommon occurrence. Apparently, sometimes when the bulb burns out there is a chance that the ballast can start a fire. He told me that the Fire Marshall had issued reports about the dangers of these
bulbs.

Upon doing some Internet research, it seems that bulbs made by “Globe” in China seem to have the lion’s share of problems. Lots of fires have been blamed on misuse of CFL bulbs, like using them in recessed lighting, pot lights, dimmers or in track lighting. Mine was not in any of those. It was a normal light socket.

I bought these at Wal-Mart. I will be removing all the Globe bulbs from my house.

He needs to get a hold of that company that is a serious fire hazard. I mean it is his duty to tell him cause people could die.

Never EVER shop at Walmart, and avoid all crap made in China. Yes, it could happen with bulbs by any other manufacturer I suppose, and maybe even with something not bought at Walmart, but the odds are significantly lower. NEVER SHOP AT WALMART!

Wally World, where else do they sell nothing but chinese made sheet?
I worked for them decades ago when they were the new kid on the block. "ALL AMERICAN MADE" was their tag line. Boy did they pull the sheet over everyone's heads. They were "American brand" maybe 20 some years ago, but since Sam Walton died the whole company went foreign products. I remember them saying they would never take the new Discover card, because the were slow on payment transfers...

Right ON man. I read the labels on food and "Made in..." and if it says Made in China I don't buy it unless I don't have any other choice. People buy their garbage for a LITTLE less than what they could buy a quality made American (or German) product; it breaks after they use it one fooking time - IF it doesn't break getting it out of the package.

I have not grown with CFL's in a few years but when I saw this I knew I had to post it for those who use them. I don't want any of my buds burning their house down!
