In a perfect world how far from the canopy would you like your lights?

Mounting height preference. (Same canopy coverage)

HLG-Elite at 18" and 24". Pic with DEs spaced closer together is 24" on the Elites. Bottom 2 rows are Elites. Top 2 rows are DEs at 30" above the canopy. Average light levels are very similar.

What are your thoughts? I'm good with constructive criticism.

Also note the Elites are separate light engines 4 per unit. Best way to get accurate measurements. Goniophotometer is only accurate 3X the size of the fixture away.

obviously your foot print is far superior to the hid's. I think at this point you have a better product, it is just a question of your new secret spectrum.

Ok. So the Elite is superior with coverage, which I would expect from a more diffuse light source. Like @Uncle Reefer said, it's gonna come down to spectrum now. Is the Elite using just straight white light diodes, or did you guys sneak some UV and red surprises in there for us?

My QB 304s running at 950ma are pretty perfect at 12"-16" I can look down at the canopy without light in my eyes and I run the bars so I can still reach into the canpoy easily. I don't see a point in going over 20in in any situation

We added reds. We have a supplemental light that has uva uvb made specific for white light led coming too. It will be an add on fr the elite.

Tent growers seem to like lights that are bigger and softer driven, and closer to the canopy.

Industrial commercial growers like smaller lights that are hung higher that are driven harder.

Some of the newer led panels are using the vero 29's with 100 or so watts per chip, which is awesome for cost but not great for tent growers as you need more ceiling height.

24" works great for our panels, as you arent wasting light against the wall and are not killing your plants with too much intensity.

If you are running strips or boards you need it close to the canopy, but then your physical size of your light needs to be huge, a 36x36 or 48x48 sized lighting fixture to cover a 4x4 isnt everyones cup of tea.

One thing that standard hps has on led is that its very small in size, and lightweight.

Its a great question but i think the response will be quite varied.
