Indica Harvest window question

Attitude and other seed merchants specify "days in flower" or something like that which I guess gives a rough guide as to when to cut. I have some Barney's Farm Blue Cheese plants that are at day 55 of 12/12 which technically could be the beginning of the 55 to 65 day harvest window. I have lots of trichs and maybe 30% brown pistils on some of the buds. Not ready yet but getting there. My question is, when they say 55 to 65 days do they mean starting from when you set lights to 12/12 or from when pistils first appear which for me was like 10 days after the 12/12 began. I'm going to use the advice in this forum and let these get ripe and ready rather than rush to cut. From what I read here, it does sound like the "harvest window" for indicas is shorter than for sativas. I like a body stone but I don't want to go to the point of diminishing potency.

Thanks

flower time starts after sex has been shown, so for you that was 10 days after 12/12 count from there. Also the best way to know is the get a pocket microscope from radioshack and check your trichromes, they will change from clear to cloudy to amber, once amber you have about a week window to harvest.

Thanks, that clears that up. I have a radioshak scope. A question: because I'm not too steady and my eyesight sucks, would it be ok to snip a leaf blade so I can put it all on a flat steady surface to get a good look. I find that when trying to look by holding scope up to the plant, I pick up some of the red-brown pistil color which may make clear trichs seem to have an amber tinge. How do you deal with that situation ?

I usually try to snip a small part of leaf from the middle section. I don't know if it's standard procedure but I do cut from the middle, to close to the top and it is to done and the rest is not.

ya i too just snip of a couple leaves from various places on the plant and then check them, pair of tweezers to hold leaf and move it around so you don't crush trichs with fingers
