indoor grow. CFL lighting help

I am starting my first grow indoors and would like to confirm the lighting for 1 plant. All the lights will be used for the entire grow session and need to know if it will work for both veg and flowering.

I would be hanging all the lights vertically from the top of the box. The 23watts would be lowered around the sides of the plant like a diamond.

Would this work well for one plant?

If it were me I would get 2 26 watt warm light bulbs and a y splitter and a large (10 1/2 inch) clamp reflector. Good for a 1 foot plant. Or get 2 42 watt bulbs, an extender so the bulbs do not touch the reflector, y splitter and the reflector. Good for a 18 inch plant or just more energy for any size plant.

I veg and flower with the warm white as it is ok for veg and gives more red for flower. More light comes off the sides of the cfl if you reflect all of it, than does from just the bottom. The y splitter combines the light off the sides of both bulbs and doubles the intensity and therefore penetration. 4 inches for the 26 watt and 8 inches for the 42 watt. With 2 bulbs in splitter and reflector, you will double that. 8 inches and 16 inches penetration.

You want the lights within 1 or 2 inches at most from the plant except for 1st week. Watch them for burn or heat over load. Small fan going just under the lights to keep heat from being too much if using the reflector.

The 65 watt bulbs are not well regarded for efficiency but will have more lumens or light. You can go with 6500k or the redder 2700k lights from veg to flower. You will give up a little on the flower if you go 6500k and a little on the veg if you use 2700k.

This was from another posting but you might find it useful.

HID are easy and pretty cheap but are hot and require a bit of extra gear. For cheap cheap grows I would recommend CFLs. To do it cheap focus on 23w CFLs only (other bulb cost much more $/w and $/lumen) and try to find sales. I can find 23w bulb at the dollar store any day for $1/each to $1 for 2. I can often find sales at home depot for 4 packs for $1. For fixtures I would recommend cheap bathroom vanity lights. These 4 bulb fixtures are only $4.50 http://www.lightingdirect.com/maxim-...ection/p860557

You can easily make adjustable reflectors... With Y splitters ($1.50 each) you can easily double your wattage.

Here's my generic blurb on CFL grows -

I was pulling an oz a week with 388w of CFL here - First CFL Grow - Help appreciated

I would recommend a 3:1 of 6500K:2700K for veg and the opposite for flower.

Keep them small! CFLs don't do nearly as well with large plants unless you keep a clean scrog or LST. I started flowering at this size -

Dropping bulb between plants maximizes plant absorption without the loss of restrike like you would have with a reflector. I tried to cover the canopy in smaller bulbs and submerge larger bulbs between plants.

I would yield ~ 1oz per plant. With 6 in full flower at a time and two others just rotating into the flower box I was able to harvest a plant per week.

This took place in a 2x3x3.5' area of a small closet.
